About Kwihaza Project: Kwihaza Project is a four-year intervention Co-funded by the European Union and the Grand Dutchy of Luxembourg and implemented by Enabel in Rwanda under the mandate granted by the EU and LuxDev. This publication is issued within the framework of that mandate.
The overall objective of Kwihaza project is to contribute to the transition towards socially and environmentally inclusive food systems by strengthening value chains in aquaculture, fisheries, and horticulture.
More specifically, it is designed to support SMEs to adopt better processing practices that add value to fish and horticultural products while enhancing food safety and marketability. The project aims to achieve this through providing targeted training programs to equip MSMEs and cooperatives with the skills needed for post-harvest handling, quality control and compliance with food safety regulations.
Call for applications:
Are you a Small or Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) involved in fish or horticulture value addition? Are you ready to improve your product quality and meet food safety requirements for local and international markets?
We are pleased to invite you to apply for a training program on the Requirements for Food Safety Standards to be delivered by highly experienced trainers. This training is designed to equip participants with essential knowledge and practices to ensure food safety compliance, improve product quality, and enhance market access.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify, your business must:
- Be a registered company (proof of registration required)
- Be currently operational in the fish or horticulture value addition sector
- Commit to immediately implementing the acquired skills
- Have a minimum production capacity of:
- 200 Kg/week of fish value-added products, or
- 500–1000 Kg/week of horticulture value-added products.
Training Highlights: What You’ll Gain:
- Knowledge of national and international food safety standards
- Training on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) basics
- Guidance on record-keeping and documentation
- Practical tools to improve quality and safety in your production
- This training is completely free, with the goal of empowering local MSMEs to thrive in the value-added food sector.
Duration:
The training will be conducted for a maximum duration of 14 days. After which, selected SMEs will receive customized coaching support based on their growth stage and priority needs.
Location:
The training will be conducted in collaboration with a local technical school. Participants will need to be physically present at the training venue for the entire duration of the training.
