Call for Proposals: Africa-Bavaria Tandem Mobility Grant 2025 (Deadline: 6 August, 2025)

The Africa-Bavaria Tandem Mobility Grant 2025 is now open for applications. This initiative, funded by the Free State of Bavaria and coordinated by BayFOR’s WKS Bavaria-Africa, aims to boost collaborative research and innovation between early-career researchers from Bavaria and African countries.

For Advanced PhD Candidates & Postdocs in Bavaria & Africa

What’s the Opportunity?

Two early-career researchers – one based at a Bavarian HEI and one at an African HEI – co-apply for a research exchange. Each partner will spend 14–31 days at the other’s institution, working together on networking and future research proposals.

What’s Funded?

• Travel costs and per diems (based on DAAD rates)

• Up to €3,500 for Bavarian researchers

• Up to €4,500 for African researchers

• Optional child travel allowance

• Visits must be completed by 30 November 2025

Who Can Apply?

• Advanced PhD candidates (defending thesis in 2025/26)

• Postdocs or assistant professors (temporary contract)

• From all academic disciplines

• Must apply as a tandem (no individual applications)

What to Submit:

• Project description (Part A)

• Budget and timeline (Part B)

• Two CVs (max. 3 pages each)
  All documents must be sent in one email to: Bayern-Afrika@bayfor.org
  Deadline: 06 August 2025 at 11:59 PM CEST

Important Notes:

• Each partner must give a presentation at the host institution

• Final report due by 01 December 2025

• An online networking event for selected tandems will be held in autumn 2025
