For the twenty-fourth year in a row, Canon and Visa pour l’Image will be presenting the prestigious Canon Female Photojournalist Grant to an outstanding photographer in recognition of her contribution to photojournalism.
This year, we are featuring Anastasia Taylor-Lind (2023 winner) on the civilian experience of war in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine.
Objective:
The Canon Female Photojournalist Grant is presented to a female photojournalist in activity who wishes to cover a social, economic, political or cultural subject in a journalistic manner, on presentation of a dossier, including the documents and works stipulated in
The Grant will be given to an individual photojournalist and not to a group, without any consideration of nationality. The Grant is given in order to allow the winner to carry out the photo-reportage which has been presented for the Grant.

The grant of €8,000 provides funding to support a compelling new project which will be featured as an exhibition at the 2025 festival.

Requirements for Canon Female Photojournalist Grant Qualification
The conditions are as follows:
- Applicants must have completed at least one photo-reportage (published or unpublished)
- Applicants must be professional photojournalists
- Applicants must be able to write and speak in French and/or English
The application dossier will include the following items:
1. A signed application form,
2. A copy of the Applicant’s identity card or passport,
3. An affidavit stating that the candidate is a professional photojournalist (attestation of honor written by the photographer or from an agency or from a newspaper)
4. A curriculum vitae,
5. A letter in support of the application including a description of the photoreportage project (maximum 1 typed page). This letter must remain anonymous and must not contain anything that would allow the candidate to be identified.
6. A projected budget for the photo-reportage project for which the Grant is to be used if obtained. If the financing of the project is to be extended to other partners, these must be approved by Canon and Images Evidence who reserve the right not to cite them,
7. A photo-reportage in black and white or colour: between 10 and 20 pictures

- low resolution .jpg
- with captions written in the File Info field (no mention of copyright in the IPTC files)
- only JPEG accepted (no TIFF or PSD)
- maximum images size : 3 MB
- Each Picture file has to be numbered without mentioning the name of the photographer (01, 02, 03, …) in the order the photograph would like them to be shown to the jury
The folder must be clearly labelled with the name of the Applicant
NB : folders who will not respect those precise specifications will be out of competition Books or any other format will not be considered.
There should be no evidence of the Applicant’s identity in the image file names in order to maintain the anonymity of the dossiers. The photographs can be numbered,
8. Copies of publications if possible (maximum 3). Books are not accepted.
To make it short: the candidate will have to send by FTP, a compressed general file folder (.zip) entitled: CanonGrantPhotographerName (example: CanonGrantDoe).
This folder should contain the images and the various elements enumerated above. We will not answer to requests concerning the use of a software FTP and no confirmation of reception of file could be delivered.
Interview date, Process and Venue for Canon Female Photojournalist Grant
The jury, which will be made up of people in the profession, will give the Grant based on the professional qualities of the Applicant and the relevance and originality of the project. The jury’s decision is final and will be carried by majority vote after due deliberation. The jury can decide not to give the grant if it considers that none of the applications is worthy of it.
