Scholarship Coverage

Central South University Scholarship will provide:

  • Full scholarship: Coverage of tuition, on-campus accommodation, medical insurance fees, and monthly stipend (CNY 3000 per master student and CNY 3500 per doctoral student).

Eligibility Criteria for Central South University Scholarship

To qualify for the Central South University Scholarship, the candidate must fulfil all of the following requirements below:

  • Required Language: Students who apply for Chinese-taught programs should obtain a minimum score of 220 in HSK4 for science and engineering programs and 260 in HSK4 for arts, social science, and medical programs (for bachelor of Chinese language and literature, a minimum score of 200 in HSK5); Students who cannot meet the requirement of Chinese competence shall take a one-year preparatory course of the Chinese language and meet above HSK requirement before embarking on their programs. Students who apply for English-taught programs should obtain a minimum score of 6 in IELTS or 85 in TOEFL.
    Those who meet one of the following conditions are exempt from proving their linguistic competence:
    a) Applicants whose first language or the official language of the country is Chinese or English.
    b) Applicants who have taken a degree program whose teaching language is in Chinese or English.
  • Eligible Countries: All world countries
  • Excellent Non-Chinese citizens, with no criminal records and in good health.
  • For Bachelor’s degree, applicants should have a high school degree or its equivalent and should be 18 to 25 years old; for a Master’s degree, applicants should have a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent and should be 18 to 35 years old; for Doctor’s degree, applicants should have a master’s degree or its equivalent and should be 18 to 40 years old. Applicants who are under the age of 18 shall be no less than 16 years old with an eligible guardian living in China.
  • Applicants of postgraduate programs are required to have a strong academic background and innovative research capabilities.

How to Apply for Central South University Scholarship 2025?

To apply for the Central South University Scholarship, follow these steps:

Step 1: Create an Account & Start Application

  • Register on the CSU website and begin filling out your application form.

Step 2: Submit Required Documents

Ensure all documents are in English or Chinese (or notarized translations). Required materials include:

  • Passport Copy (valid for at least one year).
  • Physical Examination Record (completed after October 1, 2024).
  • Highest Graduation Certificate (or a notarized English/Chinese translation). Pre-graduation certificates are required for current students.
  • Academic Transcripts (officially stamped or notarized translation).
  • Non-Criminal Record (issued after October 1, 2024).
  • Language Proficiency Certificate:
    • HSK for Chinese-taught programs.
    • IELTS/TOEFL for English-taught programs (or equivalent proof of proficiency).
  • Two Recommendation Letters from professors/associate professors (signed after October 1, 2024). (Graduate applicants only)
  • Study Plan (800+ words) detailing research background, methodology, and significance. (Graduate applicants only)
  • Published Papers or Supporting Materials (Graduate applicants only).

Step 3: Initial Review & Application Fee Payment

  • The School of International Education will conduct an initial assessment of eligibility, language proficiency, and health conditions.
  • If approved, an email will be sent for the application fee payment (RMB 500) via WeChat, Alipay, or UnionPay. Payment must be completed within two weeks to proceed.
  • If you fail the initial reviewDO NOT pay the application fee.

Step 4: Academic Review

  • CSU’s academic departments will evaluate your academic background, research ability, and innovation potential.

Step 5: Admission Results

  • Admission results will be announced via email.
  • The final financial support is based on the admission email, not the system interface.
  • Admission notices and visa application forms will be sent accordingly.

Step 6: Scholarship Annual Review

  • All scholarship recipients undergo an annual review based on academic and daily performance.
  • If a student fails the review, the scholarship may be suspended.

Important Notes:

  • Documents must be in Chinese or English (other languages require notarized translations).
  • Applicants with Chinese ancestry must meet specific nationality proof requirements, including residency abroad for at least 2 years in the last 4 years.
  • The application fee is non-refundable, and materials will not be returned.
  • The winter vacation (Jan 26 – Feb 27, 2025) may delay the review process. The initial review takes 2-4 weeks, and academic reviews are scheduled by the relevant department
