Job description
The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a programme for violence prevention and peacebuilding. Nine German peace and development organisations carry out the CPS together with local partner organisations. CPS advisors support local initiatives in their commitment to dialogue, human rights and peace in the long term. The CPS peace work in refugee camps in Rwanda supports local partners in strengthening peaceful coexistence between refugees and members from host communities. The project’s overall objective is for refugees and host community to resort to non-violent methods of conflict resolution in the event of conflict. The CPS Advisor will be based in Kirehe District, Eastern Province of Rwanda.
Your tasks
- Development and implementation of context-adequate training in conflict resolution and transformation e.g. conflict-sensitive communication, mediation, conflict management, do-no-harm etc., tailored to the different needs of the Trained Trainers (Multiplicateurs) as well as Refugee and Rwandan leaders
- Enhancing the capacity of existing conflict resolution structures and mechanisms in refugee camps e.g. Peace Dialogue, conflict resolution committees, etc. in methods of conflict transformation and techniques of monitoring and evaluation of peace-building measures
- Support the Legal Aid Forum (LAF) and other CPS peace education partners in the development and implementation of project proposals and quality reporting
- Continuously monitoring and assessing the impact of the training provided by measuring the level of satisfaction and behavioural change of Multiplicateurs as well as Refugee and Rwandan leaders
- Supporting LAF and other CPS peace education partners in developing conflict resolution activities to achieve the desired impact (e.g. in implementing guidelines for the conflict resolution committee in the refugee camps)
- On the request of other actors you will contribute to peace building activities (new ideas, monitoring of new developments and opportunities, networking, facilitation skills, reflection on current practices)
- Contribute to developing and updating training modules
- Significant support to the programme coordination of the CPS Rwanda in writing the annual reports on the refugee component
Your profile
- Academic background, at least a Master’s degree in one the following fields: peace pedagogy, social sciences, anthropology, political sciences, sociology or social work
- Experience in refugee work
- Professional experience in civil conflict transformation and knowledge of relevant instruments and methods
- Training experience with different target groups
- Knowledge of the history and culture of Rwanda
- Experience in working in intercultural context
- Readiness for frequent missions within Rwanda is required
- Fluency in English, French and German
