Research Triangle Institute (RTI) has over 30 years’ experience assisting governments, communities, and the private sector. RTI’s Sustainable Growth & Resilience (SG&R) technical unit within the International Development Group (IDG) brings together RTI experts and capabilities across food security, agriculture, energy, environment, water, governance, and economic opportunity. SG&R will leverage RTI’s experience designing and delivering multisectoral programming and technical solutions to respond to climate change, build resilience, and promote economic growth around the world. Within SG&R, the Global Food Security and Agriculture team is working to strengthen agricultural markets, engage youth and women as critical leaders of the on- and off-farm workforce, and tackle the dual burden of malnutrition around the globe.
Project Description
The purpose of the recently-awarded $17.4M Feed the Future Rwanda Kungahara Uhanga Akazi Activity is to address the problem of insufficient employment opportunities and limited entrepreneurial success for Rwandans. KUA will facilitate capacity development for Rwandans – particularly women, youth, and persons with disabilities – in key technical and soft skills required to participate in a modern workforce and will catalyze new entry and growth of inclusive enterprises. The program will be based in Rwanda.
Position Description

RTI is hiring a Communication and Knowledge Management Coordinator on the Feed the Future Rwanda Kungahara Uhanga Akazi Activity. The Communication and Knowledge Management Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing a project Communications Strategy to raise public awareness of the Activity; document and disseminate success stories and lessons learned; and motivate businesses to grow inclusively. This position will be based in Kigali, Rwanda, and will report to the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Manager.

Responsibilities of the Communication and Knowledge Management Coordinator include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement the Activity’s Communications Strategy and Communications Work Plan to achieve the results and objectives of the project. Revise and adapt the strategy as needed.
  • Collaborate with the COP and technical teams to define communications requirements and needs, develop communications tools for various platforms (e.g., radio, electronic media, print media, TV), gather information from project partners for communication products, and facilitate design of appropriate communications products.
  • Develop terms of reference and specifications for any external resources needed to develop communication products as defined in the Communications Strategy.
  • Provide progress reports on implementation of the Communications Strategy and Work Plan to project management.
  • Ensure the Activity’s Branding and Marking Plan is followed on all project documents, reports, and public information materials. Train project staff and partners on branding and marking requirements.
  • Develop a knowledge management database for the project and collect, compile, and maintain materials from team members for internal and external sharing.
  • Promote knowledge sharing throughout the project’s departments/units by helping develop and strengthen links between them to facilitate exchange of information
  • Liaise with media personnel as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and 1 year of experience, or bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience
  • Ability to effectively design and manage different communication formats.
  • Ability to simplify complex issues for communication across diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrate high sensitivity and tolerance to cultural, religious, racial, national origin, age, and gender issues.
  • Demonstrated team player with effective cross-cultural interpersonal skills; able to develop and communicate a common vision among diverse audiences.
  • Verbal and written fluency in English, along with strong communications, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
