The Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science is deeply committed to fostering diversity within the engineering and technology sector. In particular, we aim to increase the representation and active involvement of Indigenous and Black communities.
In line with Concordia’s ongoing efforts to empower, mentor, and provide comprehensive support to aspiring leaders in both academia and industry, we are pleased to announce the launch of the Indigenous and Black Engineering/Technology (IBET) Momentum Fellowship. This prestigious fellowship has been established to attract highly qualified domestic applicants who self-identify as Indigenous or Black, and to offer them financial support throughout their academic journey.

Aim and Benefits of Concordia University IBET Momentum Fellowship
Two recipients per year will receive $35,000 a year for four years, along with the support of an IBET mentor, as they pursue doctorate degrees and specialized engineering research.

Requirements for Concordia University IBET Momentum Fellowship Qualification
- The student must belong to one of the following groups:
- Indigenous students from Indigenous communities and nations from Canada and the U.S., or
- Black Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada (African-Canadian, Caribbean-Canadian, or Afro-Caribbean heritage). In the event that no Canadian candidates are presented, eligibility may extend to Black international students.
- Meet the admission requirements of a PhD program in the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science.
- Maintain full-time status and good academic standing while enrolled in the PhD program.

Selection process:
The Department is expected to rank the nominees and forward the applications together with the ranking to the Office of the Dean (email to Iliada Athienitis) by mid-October. Departments are expected to provide an internal deadline for their faculty members. The GCS Graduate Prize Committee will meet to select two award recipients by the first week of November.
