Job description
Rwanda’s economic growth has been remarkable over the years. While unemployment (21.1 %) and underemployment (58.9 %) remain high, majority of the population works in the agriculture sector where incomes are low. Furthermore, the number of young people entering the labour market is increasing yet a large proportion of local companies are unregistered micro-enterprises which are not very competitive and cannot harness the long-term potential for growth. The project “Skills Development for economic Transformation (SD4T)” aims to create jobs and strengthen the competitiveness of Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and cooperatives in the light manufacturing industry (e.g. furniture production, metal processing etc.) according to the principles of inclusivity, productivity and environmental sustainability. The RWVCA is a member-based organization that has 90 members along the whole wood value chain. Currently, RWVCA needs to grow and provide services to its members so that it can work on its own without relying heavily on the financial support that comes from the development partners.
Your tasks
- Developing with RWVCA a strategic plan that sets its vision and goals in line with the national policies and strategies, and international development agenda
- Supporting the RWVCA in improving the existing services and developing new services that it provides to its members
- Supporting the development of partnerships of the association with national institutions, development organizations, civil society organizations, and regional and international organizations that will support the association to achieve its mission and vision
- Supporting the association in developing the communication strategy for their members and other partners; this will include developing the communication materials that will help the association to increase its visibility
- Supporting the RWVCA in promoting the updated technologies along the wood value chain such as improved tree seeds, tree nursery management, sustainable forest management practices, harvesting and sawmilling, furniture production, and marketing the wooden products
- Supporting the RWVCA in establishing the platforms for discussing the development of the wood sector in Rwanda and facilitating access to finance
- Supporting the RWVCA in the development of business services
- Supporting the RWVCA to link its members with international wood experts
Your profile
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree in wood technology, carpentry, forestry, business development, or related field
- Proven experience in supporting the private sector in the development of different value chains for several years
- Proven experience in supporting the associations or chambers of private companies
- Proficient in using relevant software to communicate and develop platforms, knowledge of the use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)
- Willingness to always abide by the principles and regulations of GIZ and RWVCA while implementing the different activities and representing the SD4T-programme within the different partner institutions
- Having the abilities and skills to develop strategies and policy analyses
- Excellent communication and presentation skills as well as networking and relationship-building skills
- Business fluent in English; knowledge in French is an added advantage
