Application for Internships and Industry Fund for Computer Science 2024 are open. The Internships and Industry Fund for Computer Science provides financial assistance to students enrolled on an undergraduate Computer Science or Natural Science course, to support the uptake of internships and other industry activities.

Due to the generous support of Durham Alumnus and former Netflix CPO, Dr. Neil Hunt, the Internships and Industry Fund for Computer Science is in place to support students in taking up a career-enhancing internship, placement or similar work experience opportunity within industry.

Aim and Benefits of Durham University Internships and Industry Fund for Computer Science

The aim of the fund is to support students with some of the costs associated with completing an internship, placement or similar activity, both in the UK and internationally. All applications must be made via the application form on this page, and by the deadline.

  • The fund can support with the costs associated with a range of industry activities, including internships, placements and other forms of work experience
  • Both undergraduate and postgraduate students may apply
  • Students must be actively enrolled on a Computer Science or Natural Sciences programme of study
  • Eligible students who complete remote internships/experiences are welcome to apply for an award under ‘supplementary costs’ and/or ‘equipment costs’
  • The total award available per student (per cycle) is £1,500
  • There are approximately 20-30 awards available per cycle and awards are made on a ‘first come, first served’ basis

Applications must be made under one or more the following categories:

  • Travel costs (the maximum award is £600)
  • Accommodation costs (the maximum award is £600)
  • Supplementary costs (the maximum award is £500)
  • Equipment costs (the maximum award is £500)

Requirements for Durham University Internships and Industry Fund for Computer Science Qualification

Be enrolled as an active student on a Computer Science or Natural Sciences programme AND have a household income of £42,875 or less, as assessed by Student Finance England (or equivalent)

OR

Be enrolled as an active student on a Computer Science or Natural Sciences programme AND be applying to support a Global Internship or similar opportunity

Required Evidence

Confirmation of your current student loan entitlement and Durham Grant

If your household income has not been assessed by the Student Loans Company you will need to provide evidence of your household income in the form of one of the below documents:

  • 3 months of payslips, or
  • Latest annual tax summary document, or
  • An employment contract, or
  • Self-employed accounts
