Applications for the 2026 Erasmus Mundus IMFSE Scholarship are now open for all international students. The IMFSE is a 2-year full-time joint Master’s programme (120 ECTS credits) in Fire Safety Engineering, organised under the Erasmus+ Joint Master’s framework.

It aims to prepare students to deal with “global fire safety challenges in the built environment and beyond”.

Mobility is a core feature: students study across several universities in different countries, exposing them to diverse fire-safety engineering teaching and research environments.

Eligibility Requirements for the IMFSE Erasmus Mundus Scholarship

Key eligibility criteria include:

  • You need a Bachelor’s (or Master’s) degree or recognised equivalent (usually minimum 3 years full-time / 180 ECTS) in disciplines such as: civil/structural/mechanical/electrical/chemical/industrial engineering; materials science; physics; applied physics; architecture; urbanism/spatial planning or a related discipline.
  • English language proficiency: accepted tests include the IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, and others. The certificate must be no more than two years old at the start of the programme.
  • There is no nationality restriction: applicants from all countries are welcome.

According to the application guidelines:

  1. Passport photo and a copy of your passport or ID
  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  3. Personal Statement / Motivation Letter
  4. Higher education degree certificate and Transcript of Records (if not in English/Dutch/French/German, a sworn translation is required)
  5. English language certificate
  6. Two reference letters
  7. Other relevant documentation (may include legalisation of degree, etc.)

How to Apply for the Erasmus Mundus IMFSE Scholarship

  1. Check eligibility (academic + language) and decide whether you’ll apply for a scholarship or be self-sponsored.
  2. When applications open (typically in October for next academic year), fill out the online application form.
  3. Please submit all required documents by the deadline.
  4. If selected, you’ll be invited for an online interview (scholarship applicants are interviewed in February; self-sponsored applicants are interviewed later).
  5. Upon a positive outcome, you receive admission letters and enrol. For non-EU nationals, you’ll begin visa/residence permit procedures.
