Saint Louis University calls application for Fellowship in the Institute for Healing Justice and Equity in the rank of Research Assistant. The Institute is seeking applicants for a full-time Research Assistant. The position is funded for two years. The Research Assistant will work under the general direction of Professor Ruqaiijah Yearby, the Executive Director of the Institute, to conduct quantitative and qualitative research, and project coordination for projects in the fields of law, public health, psychology, and communication. These projects will focus on healing justice, health equity, and health disparities.
Position Summary
The position will engage in data collection, survey design, data analysis, literature reviews, and program evaluation. S/he will research, archive, and collect healing justice frameworks and initiatives. In addition, the incumbent will conduct big-data manipulation and analysis and will also prepare and present a variety of products including research briefs and reports, GIS, legal mapping, and synthesis of qualitative data. Moreover, the research assistant will serve as a liaison with local and national organizations monitoring emerging issues related to the Institute research projects.
Key Duties
The candidates on Fellowship at Saint Louis University will perform the following duties
- Conduct mixed methods research.
- Conduct statistical research concerning health equity and health disparities.
- Assist in studying the gaps between equity initiatives, laws and policies, and individual and community health and well-being by examining the data regarding the Social Determinants of Health.
- Independently conduct literature reviews concerning healing justice
- Independently collect census tract, metropolitan statistical area, and zip code tabulation area data.
- Prepare and present a variety of products including research briefs and reports, GIS and legal mapping.
- Synthesize qualitative data
- Serve as a liaison with local and national organizations monitoring emerging issues related to data and the Social Determinants of Health.
- Research and identify possible funding opportunities reading health equity and health disparities.
Requirements
- Masters degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Health Communication, Sociology, or related field required.
- Interest in and commitment to social justice, healing justice and/or equity work as it relates to the articulated mission, vision, and goals of the Institute for Healing Justice and Equity (IHJE), with a desire to proactively engage and collaborate in the intellectual as well as administrative work of IHJE.
- Self-starter, independent worker, and a team player.
- Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Good writing and communication skills – able to communicate with faculty, students, and other departments on campus
- Able to communicate with external, community stakeholders; can communicate effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience; can talk to others to seek input and convey information effectively.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and manage a number of tasks simultaneously, while remaining attentive to detail required.
- Computer literate, proficiency in word processing with knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, the Internet, e-mail.
- Proficiency in R, SAS, SQL, Python, SPSS, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcMap.
