United Nations Department of Peace Operations calls applications for Internship in Finance in New York, United Nations. This internship position is located in the Budget, Financial Management and Reporting Section of United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI) within the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) in New York. This internship is unpaid and full time where interns will work 35 hours a week for six months.

Responsibilities 

Candidate on this Finance Internship at United Nations in New York must perform the following duties

  • Research, compile, draft, and edit information for use in the preparation of financial reports and statements.
  • Support the BFMRS in gathering and compiling information and financial data from expenditure reports and present them using the Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio).
  • Assist in preliminary analyses of the extracted information from UN ERP system (Umoja) and UNMAS databased reports and highlights areas of concern.
  • Assist the BFMRS in collecting and analyzing UNMAS financial data to be used for the UN Programmatic Reporting Dashboard.
  • Research and compile data and other information required by the BFMRS for the review and analysis of relevant financial reports.
  • Support in the development of process mapping for project continuity.
  • File and archive documentation in hard and digital copies as required in Sharepoint.
  • Assist with the creation and organisation of data in Microsoft Excel for the purpose of producing clear and concise reports for Donors.
  • Draft minutes and talking points during the BFMRS and related meetings.
  • Update and maintain the BFMRS tasking sheet and Finance Resource Mobilisation priority log.
  • Assist the BFRMS with special projects as assigned.
  • Assist in preparing for meetings and training including contributing for PowerPoint presentations, background documents and other relevant material.
  • Draft routine correspondence with respect to inquiries related to relevant financial budget matters as may be assigned.
  • Provide administrative support to the Chief of Section and/or Financial Officers and Assistants as required.
  • Perform any other related duties, as may be assigned.

Academic Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements

  • Enrollment in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent or higher).
  • Enrollment in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent or higher).
  • Graduated from the university and if selected, candidate must be able to commence the internship within a year of graduation.

Additional Qualifications

  • Proficient in computer literate including standard software applications.
  • Keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
