Fruit Pathologists Research Fellow at RWANDA AGRICULTURE AND ANIMAL RESOURCES DEVELOPEMENT BOARD (RAB): (Deadline 4 March 2022)
Job description
-Reporting to the Horticulture Program Coordinator Senior Research Fellow, the Fruits Pathologist Research Fellow has the following responsibilities:
-Conduct research on diseases of fruit crops and decay of fruit crops’ products;
-Tests possible control measures for diseases of fruit crops and fruit crops’ products decay under laboratory and field conditions for comparative effectiveness, practicality, and economy.
-Investigates comparative susceptibility of different varieties of fruit crops and develops varieties immune to disease;
-Studies rates of spread and intensity of fruit crop disease under different conditions of soil, climate, and geography, and predicts outbreaks of plant diseases.
-Determines kinds of plants and insects that harbor or are likely to transmit disease to fruit crops.
-Study losses inflicted by diseases of fruit crops in field or after harvest and develop practices to prevent or reduce these losses.
-Determine presence of disease producing agents in seed stocks to reduce losses from seed borne diseases.
-To participate in meetings, seminars, conferences relevant to field of research and bring visibility of institution in local and international forums;
-Assign as appropriate duties and responsibilities to the technical staff operating under his/her guidance.
-Guiding, supporting and training Research Technicians on fruit crops’ pathology related work.
-To write or contribute to scientific publications on his/her research results in accordance with prescribed policy.
-To investigate funding opportunities and develop grant proposals in line with national priorities and farmers’ needs.
-To disseminate technologies, innovations, knowledge and skills to farmers and other stakeholders along the horticulture value chains through various approaches including technical guidelines, extension/training materials, documentary films, demonstration plots, media outreach, trainings, etc.
-Ensure the adequate management of resources under his or her responsibilities and prevent audit queries and implementation of Auditor General Recommendations when queries are raised.
Undertake other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator and other RAB Senior Manager

Having participated in writing and winning two (2) projects
-
Having contributed to the generation of 4 innovations or technologies
-
Having eight (8) years of relevant working experience with four (4) publications as 1st author and 6 publications as co-authors
-
Being conversant with national and sector policies and development agenda

Proven experience to work with farmers and industry stakeholders in research and extension
-
Extensive understanding of the National and International context of Research

Capacity in project development and resource Mobilization
-
Having authored at least four (4) scientific publications as first author and six (6) publications as a co-author in a peer-reviewed journal for Master degree holders
-
Having contributed to the writing of at least two (2) successful research projects for Master degree holder
-
Having contributed to the generation of at least four (4) innovations or technology for Animal Resources development for Master degree holders
