The Activist-in-Residence (AiR) Fellowship Programme at the Centre for the Study of Race and Racism (FCRJ), SOAS University of London, is now accepting applications for the 2025–2026 cycle. This fully funded remote fellowship is designed to support activists committed to feminist and racial justice in developing impactful, community-centered projects.
About the AiR Fellowship
The Activist-in-Residence Programme encourages collaboration and mutual learning between activists, researchers, students, and policymakers. Its goal is to advance public scholarship and deepen community engagement around the effects of racism and racialisation.
For the 2025–2026 cycle, the programme offers two fully funded remote fellowships, each running for six months starting November 2025. Fellows will receive £3,000 to implement a project that generates practical, public-facing outputs relevant to the fellow’s community and aligned with FCRJ’s research priorities.
Who Should Apply?

The fellowship is designed for those working outside of traditional academia. It does not fund academic research projects.
Fellowship Benefits and Responsibilities
Each selected fellow will receive:

A fully funded fellowship grant of £3,000

A remote, six-month engagement starting November 2025

Guidance and support from the FCRJ team
During the fellowship, fellows are expected to:

Deliver a defined action-oriented project, such as a digital archive, short film, scoping study, exhibition, or policy brief.

Ensure the project directly benefits a community they are actively involved in or supports an ongoing grassroots initiative.

Co-organise a public showcase event in partnership with FCRJ to share project outcomes and engage wider audiences.

Produce tangible, public-oriented outputs that contribute to conversations on race, racism, decoloniality, feminism, and community resistance.
Themes and Areas of Focus
Applicants may explore a wide range of critical issues, including:

Governance and youth protest movements

Migration, militarisation, and anti-gender politics

Indigenous knowledge and feminist resistance

Public education and racial justice policy advocacy
Projects should be timely, regionally relevant, and grounded in social justice values.
