Apply for the Resilience Fellowship for young changemakers and climate activists in Kenya:

Applications are open for the next edition of the Resilience Fellowship, set to run from September 2025 to March 2026. Now in its fourth year, the program will take place entirely in East Africa, beginning with Kenya. The initiative is tailored specifically for young changemakers aged 18 to 26 and aims to empower 14 participants—working in seven pairs—through a transformative nine-month experience centered on healing, leadership, and community resilience.

This people-centered program offers a rare opportunity for young individuals to strengthen their activism, build supportive peer relationships, and lead meaningful change in their local environments. Selected fellows will receive a stipend of KES 40,000 and all travel expenses will be covered for a five-day retreat taking place in nature from October 3 to 7, 2025. This gathering promises rejuvenation, connection, nourishing meals, and deep conversation. Participants will also earn a Mental Health First Aid certification and benefit from eight months of mentorship with experienced leaders from diverse backgrounds. Through the program, fellows can expect to build new competencies in leadership, facilitation, project planning, and community engagement, while improving their mental wellbeing and building a strong network of lifelong allies.

The fellowship is intensive and requires a firm commitment. Participants must be ready to fully engage with all aspects of the program, from in-person sessions to weekly duties and regular mentorship. This includes completing an online mental health training over two days, attending the full five-day retreat in October, and co-leading a Resilience Circle in their community. Each pair of fellows will facilitate weekly sessions with 12–16 young people over an eight-week period, dedicating 5 to 6 hours weekly for planning, delivery, and follow-up. Fellows are also expected to check in regularly with the coordination team, join monthly reflection calls, and meet one-on-one with assigned mentors.

Eligible applicants must be Kenyan residents between the ages of 18 and 26 and fully available throughout the fellowship period. Since the program revolves around peer-led circles, applications must be submitted by pairs who already have a strong working relationship. The fellowship embraces the interconnected nature of climate justice and encourages applications from individuals from underrepresented or marginalized backgrounds, including but not limited to those facing systemic barriers related to race, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, economic status, or religion.

This opportunity is for those who are deeply committed to climate justice, emotionally aware, and ready to support others through shared growth. Strong listening skills, empathy, and a willingness to explore emotional wellbeing and the impact of climate anxiety are essential. Applicants should also have a good command of English to ensure meaningful participation throughout the program.
