PURPOSE:
The role of Gender and Social Inclusion GESI Specialist will be to support the Country program in the planning and implementation of social empowerment related activities, including gender and social inclusion. The GESI will support staff capacity development by providing targeted training and supportive supervision to field staff. This role will also promote safeguarding by supporting the identification of safe club spaces, GBV cases and managing community based case management and referrals. An ideal candidate for this role is one who is proactive, resourceful and enjoys being a team player.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the AIM field team in several inception phase activities such as community mobilization, inception meetings, transect walk, household survey, YDC formation.
Provide overall technical assistance to plan and implement social empowerment interventions, including SRHR, GBV, Psychosocial support, among others.
Provide support to the Country and field team for the development of training materials for capacity building of club members, mentors, partners and community members on sensitive issues such as gender based violence, SRHR, reporting acts of domestic violence, mobilizing community support to advance women’s rights.
Provide technical support to identify and establishment of suitable safe spaces for club operations.
Provide technical support to make reasonable accommodations to make the club space accessible to marginalized groups, including ensuring disability accessibility; ECD corners in club spaces.
Ensure the provision of gender-segregated and accessible infrastructures such as restrooms equipped with adequate water sources, lighting, functional locks, sanitary napkins dispensers, soap, disposal bins and grab bars, and babies’ changing stations.
Identify the capacity needs among the staff, and facilitate training and orientation on issues such as gender and social inclusion, support with GBV case management (documentation, referral and periodic follow up) and building YDC capacity on community-based complaints mechanism and case management.
Enhance the capacity of Program Officers and Mentors in delivering GESI, SRHR, and GBV-focused sessions through a hand-holding approach, and regular club visits during the sessions.
Organize learning sessions, workshops, seminars, meetings, discussion groups.
Support coordination with a range of stakeholders, including government entities, INGOs, CSOs, YDC members, service providers, to support the program’s social empowerment interventions.
Be informed of and compile a full list of national laws and regulations, disseminate this knowledge with field teams and ensure all social empowerment interventions are developed in accordance with the existing laws.
Maintain a close working relationship and ensure alignment to other parts of the programmatic operations.
Identify and document best practices and share this knowledge with country colleagues and the knowledge management team.
Organize events for the celebration of international days such as International Women’s Day, the 16 Days of Activism, and Girls’ Child Day.
Liaise with key stakeholders (government and non-government) and collect relevant training materials that can be used to develop/strengthen BRAC’s training materials.
Regularly check MIS and lead the drafting of reports, as needed
Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the project goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.
EXPERIENCE (Including sector/industry):
5+ years of relevant experience in implementation of interventions related to gender and social inclusion, sexual reproductive and health rights, GBV, psychosocial support and others in International NGO environment.
Previous experience in providing technical assistance, especially related to social empowerment related activities, training module development, and training facilitation
Experience of working in integrated programs targeted for women is a plus.
Having professional experience in program cycle management that includes assessment, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, etc
Having academic qualification in social sciences, gender and development, International Development, Sociology, Anthropology, education and other related fields.
An in-depth understanding of national and international development issues particularly in relation to vulnerable populations that include children, youth and women.
Previous experience of managing and developing a team and the ability to lead, motivate and develop others.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
Fluency in written and spoken English.
Ability and willingness to adapt to work practices and hours, and work with teams in the event of major emergencies
Commitment to and understanding of BRAC International aims, values and principles including rights- based approaches
