Applications are now open for the 2026 Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme. This prestigious initiative, funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science and managed by Research Ireland, supports suitably qualified postgraduate candidates pursuing, or intending to pursue, full-time research in any discipline.

Program Duration:

• Master’s by Research: up to 2 years of funding.

• Doctoral Degree (PhD): up to 4 years of funding.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Open to Master’s and PhD candidates (new entrants or within first year of study).

• No age limit.

• Must be affiliated with an Eligible Research Body.

• Bachelor’s degree with at least upper second-class honours (or equivalent).

• If degree class is lower, applicant must hold a Master’s degree.

• Applications must be submitted in Irish or English.

• No more than two previous unsuccessful applications allowed.

• Applicants cannot be permanent staff at a Research Body.

• Each application requires a primary supervisor (one supervisor = one applicant).

Scholarship Benefits:

• Annual value: up to €34,000 (per year), including:

  • Stipend of €25,000.

  • Contribution to fees (up to €5,750, including non-EU).

  • Eligible direct research costs of €3,250.
