Harvard GH Institute Visiting Research Scholarship Program 2025-2026
The Visiting Research Scholarship Program offered by the Harvard Global Health Institute (HGHI) supports global health research through international collaboration. The idea is to allow an international researcher (the “visiting scholar”) to spend six weeks in residence at Harvard, working closely with a Harvard faculty sponsor, to deepen research partnerships.

Eligibility & Requirements
For Harvard Faculty Sponsors:
- Must be full faculty at a Harvard school or affiliated hospital.
- Must show an existing collaboration or at least significant past or potential joint work with the visiting scholar: e.g. shared publications, curriculum work, policies or service projects.
- Must be able to provide an academic appointment (non-faculty HUID) for the visiting scholar, and sponsor their J-1 visa.
For Visiting Scholars:
- Generally a doctoral degree is required; exceptional master’s‐level candidates may be considered.
- Must be in good standing at their home institution.
- Must have an active passport and be eligible for a J-1 visa.
- Must be able to relocate to the Boston / Cambridge, MA area for the six weeks residency.

Application & Deadline
- Applications must be submitted by Harvard faculty, who nominate their international collaborator.
- Deadline for the 2025-2026 cohort is October 19, 2025 at 11:59 PM.
- Required elements typically include: sponsoring faculty’s work plan, narrative of why in-person collaboration is needed, CV of visiting scholar, letters of recommendation, etc.
