Introduction

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is now accepting applications for a Social Media and Content Creation Intern at its Regional Office for Africa (ROAF) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. This internship provides a unique opportunity to work on communications for a critical project addressing child labour in supply chains across Africa.

The internship is open to candidates from all ILO member States and is offered as part of the ILO’s Internship Programme, which aims to:

  • Enhance understanding of international labour issues
  • Provide practical work experience in line with academic studies
  • Support the ILO’s mission to advance social justice and promote decent work

About the ILO Regional Office for Africa (ROAF)

ROAF is tasked with promoting ILO principles and decent work priorities across Africa by:

  • Guiding ILO Country Offices and Decent Work Technical Support Teams (DWTs)
  • Collaborating with key regional institutions (e.g., African Union, African Development Bank, UNECA)
  • Supporting rights at work, employment promotion, social protection, and social dialogue

About the ACCEL Africa Project

The internship supports the “Accelerating Action for the Elimination of Child Labour in Supply Chains in Africa” project, operational in:

  • Côte d’Ivoire
  • Ghana
  • Kenya
  • Mali
  • Nigeria
  • Uganda

This project targets child labour by enhancing policy, governance, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge exchange. The intern will assist in increasing the project’s visibility and advocacy reach via digital channels.

Internship Objectives

For the Intern:

  • Gain hands-on experience in digital advocacy and social media communications
  • Develop skills in content planning, storytelling, and online engagement

For the Project:

  • Boost the project’s online presence and outreach
  • Deliver consistent, timely, and impactful content aligned with ILO goals

Learning Areas

During the internship, you will:

  • Understand ILO’s communication strategies against child labour
  • Implement social media plans for advocacy and awareness
  • Create digital content including posts, graphics, and short videos
  • Help design and publish multimedia materials for events and campaigns
  • Participate in internal team meetings and skill-building sessions
  • Learn about gender-responsive communications and ethical storytelling

Responsibilities

As part of your role, you will:

  • Support the execution of ACCEL Africa’s digital strategy
  • Design infographics, videos, and visual materials
  • Assist in updating content for digital platforms and the website
  • Help promote events and campaigns via online engagement
  • Track social media metrics and impact
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned

Education Requirements

Applicants must be:

  • Enrolled in the final year of a graduate degree OR
  • Enrolled in a higher degree programme in communications, journalism, arts, social sciences, or related fields OR
  • Recently graduated (no longer than one year ago)

Experience and Skills

  • Familiarity with tools like Adobe Suite, Canva, or similar software
  • Experience with social media, graphic design, and photo editing is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills in French or English
  • Working knowledge of a second official language (French or English)

Additional Competencies:

  • Interest in communications and advocacy
  • Teamwork and multicultural collaboration skills
  • Analytical thinking and research ability
  • Awareness of child labour issues and supply chain dynamics is a plus

Stipend and Benefits

  • monthly stipend will be provided based on local living costs unless fully funded by another institution
  • If partial funding is provided, ILO will cover the remainder
  • Travel costs to the duty station are the intern’s responsibility
