Immigrant Legal Services Fellowship at the University of Arizona in the United States

The Immigrant Student Resource Center (ISRC) in partnership with the Workers’ Rights Clinic (the “Clinic”) at the James E. Rogers College of Law is offering a one-year fellowship to provide a recent law school graduate the opportunity to grow as an effective advocate in immigration law and policy. The Immigrant Legal Services Fellow will work with the Workers’ Rights Clinic and ISRC to address important challenges facing immigrant students and families in the United States.

Duties and Responsibilities

Candidates on Immigrant Legal Services Fellowship at the University of Arizona will do the following duties

  • Assist with the supervision and teaching of students enrolled in the Clinic through the representation of the Clinic’s clients in immigration and employment law and policy matters.
  • This will include providing students with immigrant, refugee, and international backgrounds with 1) advice-only legal services, and 2) educational information.
  • Assist with supervision and teaching of students enrolled in the Clinic through the representation of Clinic clients and legal research on Clinic projects related to worker-owned cooperatives, including work with the Tucson Cooperative Network and its emerging member cooperatives.
  • Assist with teaching in the Clinic’s seminar class. The fellow also may choose to research and write at least one article, policy paper, or other approved project of publishable quality on a topic relating to immigration and/or employment law and policy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Experience working with immigrant populations in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • JD
  • Licensed to practice law in Arizona or enrolled to take the next available bar examination in Arizona.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish
  • Experience working with youth, low-wage workers, immigrants, refugees, victims of trauma, and/or other vulnerable populations
  • Familiarity with immigration law and/or employment law
  • Strong communication skills, with particular sensitivity to cultural differences.
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary settings with minimal direct supervision.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours (some nights and weekends).
