Applications are open for Imperial College London Fellowship 2026 | Fully Funded. The Global Development Fellowship by Imperial College London’s Global Development Hub offers outstanding PhD students from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Lower-Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) an opportunity to conduct short-term research placements at Imperial.
The program aims to strengthen global research collaboration, enhance doctoral capacity in the Global South, and build sustainable academic partnerships between Imperial and institutions in developing nations. The Fellowship supports short-term placements (2-4 months) at Imperial College for doctoral (PhD) students from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) or Lower Middle Income Countries (LMICs).
The Global Development Fellowship provides a unique opportunity for emerging researchers from developing countries to access world-class facilities, mentorship, and academic networks at Imperial College London. It aims to nurture future global leaders in science, engineering, and policy who will drive sustainable development in their home countries.
Benefits of Imperial College London Fellowship 2026
Successful fellows will receive a fully funded package, covering all essential expenses during their stay in London:
- Monthly stipend: £1,900
- Arrival allowance: £200 (one-off payment)
- Round-trip economy airfare to and from London
- Visa and biometric costs covered, including travel to visa application centers
- Access to Imperial research facilities and mentorship under a host supervisor
- Networking and professional development within Imperial’s global development community
Please note: The scheme does not cover dependents’ costs and accommodation must be arranged by the fellow.
Eligibility Criteria
- To apply for the Global Development Fellowship 2026, applicants must:
- Be currently enrolled in a PhD program at a university in an LDC or LMIC.
- Hold citizenship and permanent residency in an eligible LDC/LMIC country.
- Have completed at least 12 months of their PhD by the start of the placement.
- Have no dual British citizenship and not be residing in a high-income country.
- Secure a host supervisor at Imperial College London, with departmental support.
- Obtain a recommendation letter from their home institution supervisor confirming English proficiency and academic progress.

Proposed research plan at Imperial & its value to PhD (500 words)

Letter of recommendation from home supervisor.

Letter of support from the Imperial host supervisor, signed by the Head of Department.

All required documentation by 23:59 (UK time), 28 November 2025.
- Placements must begin in March 2026 and end by 31 July 2026.
