Applications for Indonesia Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) Scholarships are now open for 2024-25. This Scholarship is available for students from developing countries to pursue their Bachelor’s, Master or Ph.D. in Indonesia.
The Directorate General of Higher Education, Technology and Research and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology manages the Scholarship offered since 2006 to 1,608 recipients from 97 countries. The KNB Scholarship supports Indonesian higher education institutions’ internationalization efforts.
This Scholarship’s primary objectives are to:
- Facilitating human resource development in developing nations.
- Fostering enhanced cultural comprehension among developing countries.
- Reinforcing relationships and collaboration between developing nations.

Benefits of the Indonesia KNB Scholarships
KNB Scholarship covers the following allowances for the awardees:
- Settlement allowance upon arrival in Indonesia;
- Monthly living and book allowances for Indonesian language preparation;

Eligibility Criteria
There are separate specific sets of requirements for each degree level; please read the following carefully:
- Requirements and documents for doctorate scholarship candidates:
- Candidates cannot be more than 40 years old;
- Hold a master’s degree by providing a scanned copy of your certificate and academic transcripts in English). A doctorate holder is not eligible to apply;
- Provide one recommendation letter from the potential research supervisor in partner universities of the KNB Scholarship;
- Submit one statement of purpose explaining the purpose of candidates’ studies, the reason behind their interest in studying in Indonesia, pursuing their desired research topic, and future academic plans for the educational future;
- Prove TOEFL (71 iBT), IELTS (6.0), TOEIC 640, or any other English Proficiency Test certificate obtained within the last 2 Years;
- Recommendation letter from an Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General to apply for the KNB scholarship;
- One recommendation letter from an employer or direct supervisor for the KNB Scholarship;
- One recommendation letter from previous universities;
- Valid and official Passport or Personal ID;
- Completed online Application Form
- Requirements and documents for master degree scholarship candidates:
- Candidates cannot be more than 35 years old;
- Hold a bachelor’s degree by providing a scanned copy of your certificate and academic transcripts in English). Master degree holder is not eligible;
- Prove TOEFL (61 iBT), IELTS (6.0), and TOEIC (575) certificates obtained within the last 2 Years;
- Recommendation letter from an Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General to apply for the KNB scholarship;
- One recommendation letter from an employer or direct supervisor for the KNB Scholarship;
- One recommendation letter from previous schools;
- Valid and official Passport or Personal ID;
- Complete the online Application Form.
- Requirements and documents for Bachelor’s degree scholarship candidates:
- Candidates cannot be more than 21 years old;
- Hold a High School degree by providing a scanned copy of the degree certificate and academic transcripts in English). Bachelor’s degree holder is not eligible to apply;
- Prove TOEFL (53 iBT), IELTS (5.5), and TOEIC (510) certificates obtained within the last 2 Years;
- Recommendation letter from an Indonesian Embassy or Consulate General to apply for the KNB scholarship;
- One recommendation letter from an employer or immediate supervisor for the KNB Scholarship;
- One recommendation letter from previous schools;
- Valid and official Passport or Personal ID;

How Do You Apply for the Indonesia KNB Scholarships?
Qualified applicants should follow the following instructions to submit a successful application package:
- Application Procedure:
- Download the Offer Letter from the Scholarship website;
- Submit the letter, passport, English proficiency test report, recommendation letter from the Indonesian Embassy or Indonesian Consulate, recommendation letter from the employer or immediate supervisor, academic recommendation letter from previous school, Academic Certificates, Academic Transcripts, recommendation letter from research supervisor, statement of purpose to the KNB Scholarship website.
- Complete the online application process;
- Wait for the selection process;
- Check the Selection Results through the KNB Scholarship Website and the Indonesian Embassy publication network.
- Guides: During the application process, remember some important information below:
- Collect as much information as possible on the desired study program and universities. After admission, no change is likely in either the universities or your study program.
- The recommendation letter from the Indonesian Embassy in your home country is mandatory. The Embassy issues the recommendation letter based on verification and necessary background or security checks by the Indonesian Embassy. If there is no Indonesian official representative in your country, applicants can get a letter from any Indonesian Embassy accredited to their home country.
- All documents should be in English or Bahasa or officially translated into English or Bahasa.
- The participants from English-speaking countries must also meet the requirement to provide written proof of their English proficiency.
- The universities will conduct the selection process and may ask for an online interview with the potential candidates.
