Background
ACROSSAID is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that works to improve the lives of children, young people and their families by intervening to promote, support and advocate for Quality Education, Child Right and Protection, Health and Nutrition as well as for Youth Development.
Through its Educational Development Program, AcrossAid helps strengthen children’s language literacy and learning through the promotion of reading and writing culture. The program intends to improve children learning outcomes with focus on language development among children under 9 years. It further intervenes for early grade pre-primary learners (Grade 1 through Grade 3) in Kinyarwanda as well as for lower primary school children both in Kinyarwanda and English Language. It consists of:
- Providing children with adequate, age-appropriate, and child-friendly high quality and CBC (Competence-Based Curriculum)-based reading and learning materials that include both Read Aloud Storybooks and Read Alone/Leveled Storybooks written both in Kinyarwanda and English;
- Equipping children with basic reading skills in Kinyarwanda and English language with the aim to help them be able to freely speak, read and write well Kinyarwanda and English languages at the completion of their primary education through continuous reading sessions;
- Providing professional development, reading instructions and methodology to teachers and reading mentors (Abafashamyumvire bo Gusoma) through training and mentorship programs.
AcrossAid works both in community and in schools to ensure both children and parents are actively engaged in reading activities. AcrossAid focuses not only on literacy promotion activities but also on promotion of all aspects of quality education for children under 18 years of age. This implies the focus of implementing the above-mentioned programs as result of achieving its strategic plan.
AcrossAid is therefore seeking to provide a six-month Professional Internship Opportunity to a highly-committed, skilled and competent Intern who shares same passion for AcrossAid mission to support in the implementation of AcrossAid Educational Program through the position of Language Educator.
Expected Intern Outcomes
The candidate is expected to support the team through working closely with government, senior management, middle manager and line managers and other staff as well as program participants to initiate, design and implement programs as needed. The intern will provide crucial support to the field facilitation in some projects being implemented for rapid achievement of the project goals.
Basic Requirements
Since this is a professional internship, the candidate’s profile should meet the following requirements to qualify for the position:
- Hold at least Advanced Diploma (A1) in Arts/Education, Languages, Linguistics, or any other related fields;
- Hold bachelor’s degree (A0) in above-mentioned areas will be an advantage;
- Have graduated or completed academic level at least within the past 12 months/ in two years back;
- Having working experience in education sector is an added advantage;
- Demonstrate abilities to work with school children more especially for Early Childhood Development and Education (ECD&E) with child care and support package;
- Demonstrate proficient in English and Kinyarwanda languages. Knowledge in French language is preferred;
- Fluency in instructional language is required and knowledge in current REB’s Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) will be an added value;
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Goal-oriented, focused, dynamic, passionate, and self-motivated;
- High levels of integrity and professionalism.
