Intern For the project “Capacity Development for the Implementation of Rwanda’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)”
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federally owned international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. The GIZ Office in Kigali covers GIZ’s portfolio in Rwanda and Burundi. GIZ Rwanda/Burundi implements projects on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the European Union and other commissioning authorities in the following priority areas: Sustainable Economic Development; Good Governance; Climate, Energy and Sustainable Urban Development; Digital Transformation and Digital Economy; and regional projects in the Great Lakes Region.
In March 2022, the Rwandan-German Climate and Development Partnership was signed by the two governments, which includes bilateral projects for technical assistance commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment (MoE) of Rwanda. Under this Partnership, the project “Capacity Development for the Implementation of Rwanda’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)” implemented by GIZ aims to enhance the institutional and financial framework conditions of relevant state and non-state actors in Rwanda for the coordination, implementation, financing and monitoring of the country’s NDCs.
To support the implementation of the NDC project, GIZ Rwanda is recruiting for the position of intern based in Kigali.
Location: Kigali, Rwanda
Fixed Term: Six (6) months
Position: One (1)
Start date: 01.03.2024
Under the supervision of the Director of the NDC project, the intern is expected to:
A. Key responsibilities
- Support the identification, design, implementation and monitoring of measures and initiatives of capacity development for the project’s stakeholders (government agencies and institutions, private sector, civil society, academia and research institutions, etc.),
- Support the conceptualization and preparation of workshops with national and international project stakeholders in Rwanda,
- Support activities and processes in the areas of monitoring, reporting, research, knowledge management and digitalization-related processes within the project,
- Assisting with research activities on matters related to NDCs and climate policies, climate change impacts, climate finance and private sector engagement in Rwanda,
- Support the development of communication, learning and knowledge products such as factsheets, newsletters, toolkits, policy briefs, reports, and digital learning approaches,
- Support the preparation, coordination and organization of internal and external project’s activities and events such as workshops, delegation trips, team retreats, etc.,
- Other tasks as required by the Project Director and based on the necessities of service.
B. Required Qualifications, Competences and Experience
- Citizen of Rwanda enrolled as a student in the 4th academic semester (ongoing studies) in a relevant field such as: economics, development economics, climate finance, sustainable finance, environmental sciences, business administration, or any other related fields; with (very) good grades obtained during the academic studies,
- Be able to provide a recommendation for an academic internship from the university,
- Excellent business fluency in English (writing and oral). Additionally, knowledge of Kinyarwanda and French would be an advantage,
- Excellent knowledge on the use of IT tools and processes, especially Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams etc.),
- Able to work under pressure and handle multi-tasks as well as short deadlines,
- Experience in communication and public relations activities would be an asset,
- Highly motivated individual willing to learn, develop and to contribute to a dynamic team of international and national staff involved in the NDC project’s implementation,
- Strong interest and proven motivation to contribute to climate action in Rwanda,
- Willingness and ability to take responsibility, work independently and efficiently even with less supervision and guidance, and availability to undertake required duty trips.
