BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
As Head of the External Partnerships and Communications (EPC) unit, the incumbent will facilitate the forging and strengthening of partnerships with key external partners to support fundraising for WFP’s operations and will lead implementation of communications strategies to enhance WFP’s image and positioning. In this process, the Head of EPC will manage a team of partnership and communications specialists to support meeting these objectives.
JOB PURPOSE
Guided by the Corporate Partnership Strategy, to manage effective relationships and collaboration with external partners in order to meet WFP strategic objectives. To represent WFP externally to safeguard and promote WFP interests. To ensure a flow of relevant information between WFP and partners, and propose opportunities for synergies that maximise results.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
1. External Partnerships
- Lead implementation of a resource mobilization strategy to identify, develop and maintain external partnerships and maximize funding opportunities.
- Manage a portfolio of partnerships, soliciting contributions, providing donor stewardship, forecasting, negotiating changes and assessing results, to maximize resources raised.
- Conduct negotiations for contributions and partnership agreements, in line with internal policies and external regulations, to reach advantageous outcomes for WFP.
- Coordinate and prepare funding proposals, reports, presentations, and other external and internal briefing documents.
- Organize and coordinate preparations for external events and field missions.
- Represent WFP at meetings at appropriate levels.
- Manage EPC partnerships specialist to ensure appropriate development and enable high performance.
- Coordinate with other technical units throughout the organization to ensure alignment of donor conditions and provide advice to help assist them to effectively manage and mobilize additional donor resources.
2. Communications
- Develop communications plans, strategies and campaigns that favorably impact the views of the public, opinion leaders and current and potential partners in order to raise WFP’s profile and support fundraising activities.
- Develop high quality communication products, including brochures, press briefings, human-interest stories, graphics, photos, and videos and manage WFP’s social media presence to enhance external understanding of the work of WFP and advance partnership opportunities.
- Support (if and when required) the building and maintenance of effective relationships with UN agencies, NGOs, host government and other partners, in order to keep them informed on important, strategic operational WFP issues.
- Manage communications specialists to ensure appropriate development and enable high performance.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:Advanced university degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, Journalism, International Relations, Communications or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.
Experience:At least 3 – 5 years of post-graduate professional experience in the implementation of the work plan for assigned area
Languages: Fluency (level C) in English language
