Internship for E-Mobility Portfolio at Climate, Energy and Sustainable Urban Development Cluster

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federally owned German international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. The GIZ Office in Kigali covers GIZ’s portfolio in Rwanda and Burundi. GIZ Rwanda/Burundi implements projects on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the European Union and other commissioning parties in the following priority areas: Sustainable Economic Development; Good Governance; Climate, Energy and Sustainable Urban Development; Digital Transformation and Digital Economy; and regional projects in the Great Lakes Region.

Under the Climate, Energy and Sustainable Urban Development Cluster, GIZ is implementing two e-mobility projects that aim to support the uptake of electric mobility in Rwanda, by collaborating with the public as well as private sectors and academia. The first project, the Smart Mobility Lab, is raising awareness and building capacities of key stakeholders in the sector, by working together with the Carnegie Mellon University, Volkswagen and Kabisa. The second project, Mobilize Net-Zero, is supporting the Ministry of Infrastructure to assess the feasibility of electrifying the public transport fleet in intercity, rural areas and secondary / satellite cities.

GIZ is recruiting an intern that can support with the implementation of the e-mobility portfolio within the Climate, Energy and Sustainable Urban Development Cluster.

Candidate Profile

Location: Kigali

Fixed Term: 3 months

Tasks

  • Support the implementation of the two aforementioned projects by working closely with the GIZ e-mobility team.
  • Support with coordination activities between GIZ and its project partners.
  • Conduct research and prepare the necessary presentations and materials on e-mobility in Rwanda and other countries of interest.
  • Contribute to the organization of project meetings, workshops and events with key stakeholders.

Required Qualifications, Competences and Experience

  • University degree / diploma in transport planning, transport engineering, urban planning, geography, and related disciplines.
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English; good oral and written skills in Kinyarwanda is an asset.
  • Service-orientation, ability to work both in teams as well as autonomously.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
