Vacancy for an Advisor for the Tech Entrepreneurship Initiative Make-IT in Africa

 

 

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federally owned international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. GIZ has worked in Rwanda for over 30 years. The primary objectives between the Government of Rwanda and the Federal Republic of Germany are poverty reduction and promotion of sustainable development. To achieve these objectives, GIZ Rwanda is active in the sectors of Decentralization and Good Governance, Economic Development and Employment Promotion, Energy and ICT (Information and Communications Technology).

 

 

 

 

The “Tech Entrepreneurship Initiative Make-IT in Africa” (https://Make-IT-initiative.org/africa/) promotes digital innovation for sustainable and inclusive development in Africa. In close collaboration with corporate and financing partners, social enterprises, hubs, and networks, ‘Make-IT in Africa’ supports the growth of an enabling environment for young start-ups in the digital economy in Rwanda, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Tunisia – to facilitate better access to finance, markets and skills. As national coordinator for Make-IT in Africa Desk Accra, you will be one of two national representatives and be part of the Africa team of the Initiative.

GIZ Rwanda is currently looking for an Advisor for the Tech Entrepreneurship Initiative Make-IT in Africa.

Your responsibility will be to:

 

 

1. Establish the Make-IT in Africa Desk Kigali

 

 

– Establish and manage collaboration projects between International companies and Rwandan start-ups
– Set up and coordinate the Make-IT in Africa Mentor Pool Rwanda

2. Support Rwandan tech start-ups

Set up and manage start-up support programs (e.g. Accelerators) for Make-IT in Africa
Set up and manage a joint pipeline initiative for better access to investment for Rwandan start-ups
Provide Matchmaking for Rwandan start-ups with business partners (start-up corporate connect)
Identifying and maintaining contact with private investors and public financing partners for Rwandan tech start-ups

 

 

3. Project management, monitoring, and evaluation

 

 

Knowledge sharing with other Make-IT in Africa Desks in Accra, Nairobi, Lagos and Tunis
Implementation of selected activities in a regional team
Cooperate closely with other (GIZ) projects
Maintain and carry out quality assurance of Make-IT in Africa Activities in Kigali
Monitoring and evaluating of measures implemented locally and reporting to the headquarter in Germany

 

 

4. Communication and networking

 

 

PR and communication of Make-IT in Africa in the Rwandan start-up eco-system
Event management: identify local events, create and organize own events, etc.

 

 

5. International Collaboration and Exposure

 

 

 

Establish and manage new cooperation formats (‘exposure projects’) between European companies and Rwanda start-ups
Strategic cooperation with the Make-IT Alliance partners in the partner countries

 

 

Qualification and Requirements

 

 

University degree in communications science, economics, political science, social science, business informatics or a similar subject.

At least three years of professional experience in the field of start-up promotion, communication, network management and cooperation with the private sector.
Extensive knowledge of digital modernization in Africa and of the Rwandan digital start-up eco-system.
Excellent organizational and coordination skills
Ability to work independently, structure your tasks, familiarize yourself with new topics quickly and comprehensively.
You have excellent writing and communication skills and a great interest in ICT and technology; you are very flexible and are able to work under pressure.
Business fluency in English is vital. Knowledge of German and French would be an advantage.
Time and Duration of Assignment: The contract will run from 1. October 2019 up to December 2020.
