Over all the role is responsible for the Mobile Financial Services Unit, reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer. As the Head of the unit you are responsible for the management of all resources in your unit as well as planning and execution of the company’s business strategy.



  • Ensures that the team is equipped with adequate and appropriate resources for the execution of the strategy
  • Takes an active role in the skills development of members of this team and that of the wider organization
  •  Creates succession plans for all critical positions
  • Maintains and strengthens the short and long term viability of the business in terms of financial, regulatory, fiscal and operational aspects
  • Proactively identifies and mitigates risks by ensuring regulatory, Internal control and fiscal compliance; operational continuity; environmental and social responsibility in execution; fraud detection and management
  • Exemplifies Tigo culture and values and instils these in the unit team
  • Ensures continuous, clear and precise communication between field and office based staff
  • Provides clear strategic direction to the team and motivates them to achieve targets
  • Provides tactical guidance to the team and ensures that staff have clear roles and are executing to an excellent standard
  • Recruits, trains, mentors and retains the best human resources and endorse the best talent for key positions in the organization


  • Develops a robust plan to optimize the development of the forecasted market, identify risks and opportunities
  • Contributes towards the development of the strategic plan for Millicom
  • Details and validates the functional plans
  • Monitors the implementation of strategic initiatives and report on their status
  • Monitors product performance results and trends and undertakes corrective actions where required
  • Identifies and communicates key factors impacting short and medium term results
  •  Identifies and supervises key action points and review monthly


  • Works with the Regional MFS Team to agree on an innovation agenda
  • Oversees execution of product roadmap that responds to customer-needs
  • Supervises management of agent network, ensuring appropriate growth rate, incentivization, performance, quality, visibility, and liquidity
  • Ensures execution of relevant and timely marketing campaigns and branding that adheres to the Global Brand Principles
  • Oversees customer acquisition efforts, maintaining required subscriber intake, ARPU, and acquisition incentives and minimizing churn


  • Manages and monitors all operational aspects of the business unit
  • Ensures accurate documentation of all policies and processes and optimizes the efficiency of these processes
  • Collaborates with other business units to ensure effective customer support with effective escalations to back office
  •  Implements and documents effective risk management policies
  • Ensures effective management and delivery of all MFS projects


  • Optimizes gross margin by proactively administering all of the components of the unit
  • Comprehensively understands all costs and revenue levers of the business unit
  • Formulates and implements detailed plans for cost reduction
  • Devises and administers the annual MFS budget and five year plan


  • Post Graduate Degree in Economics, Business Administration, Marketing, Finance, Management, Communications or related disciplines
  •  7 – 10 years of  experience in a managerial position
  • Experience in telecoms, e-commerce, software, finance or other related industries preferable
  • Experience working in Emerging Markets required
  •  Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail
  • Able to manage and inspire multi-disciplined staff
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to champion change and effectively guide the implementation of new ideas
  • Extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
