Opportunity Description

The Journalism Fellowship for Journalists from Afghanistan and Myanmar by Judith Neilson Institute and University of Hong Kong is now accepting applications. The JNI-HKU Opportunity Fellowships were launched by the Judith Neilson Institute for Journalism and Ideas and the University of Hong Kong to provide professional development opportunities to two journalists from Myanmar and Afghanistan. At a time when reporting from Myanmar and Afghanistan is critical, JNI and HKU are providing an opportunity to develop the practice of working journalists from these countries.

Benefits of Journalism Fellowship:
  • In the academic year 2024–25, JNI-HKU Opportunity Fellowship recipients will pursue a Master of Journalism at the University of Hong Kong.
  • As part of journalist’s postgraduate studies, JNI will take the fellows to Australia to expand their industry networks and work with local journalism students.
  • To assist fellows in publishing a significant reporting project on issues affecting their home countries, HKU will provide mentoring, editing support, and access to its regional network of media contacts.
Eligibility Requirement:
  • Outstanding individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to journalism and a willingness to share their knowledge with others in the field will be awarded fellowships.
  • Must be proficient in English language (TOEFL, IELTS)
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree
  • Have working experience in Journalism
  • Women journalists will be given special consideration.
