Job Summary:

The Loan Officer is responsible for evaluating, processing, and monitoring loan applications for individuals and small businesses, ensuring adherence to the institution’s credit policies. This role involves client assessment, financial education, loan disbursement, and recovery while maintaining strong customer relationships and fostering financial inclusion within the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Loan Processing & Evaluation:
    • Identify and assess potential borrowers, conduct due diligence, and analyze creditworthiness through field visits and financial assessments.
    • Verify applicants’ financial records, business operations, and collateral where applicable.
    • Prepare loan proposals and present them to the credit committee for approval.
  2. Client Relationship Management:
    • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, providing guidance on financial literacy and loan management.
    • Educate clients on loan terms, repayment schedules, and financial best practices.
    • Serve as a liaison between the institution and clients, addressing concerns and ensuring excellent customer service.
  3. Loan Disbursement & Monitoring:
    • Oversee timely and efficient disbursement of approved loans.
    • Monitor loan performance, conduct periodic follow-ups, and identify potential repayment challenges early.
    • Offer financial counseling to struggling clients to ensure loan repayment.
  4. Risk Management & Recovery:
    • Identify potential credit risks and implement strategies to mitigate loan defaults.
    • Collaborate with collection teams to ensure timely repayments and minimize portfolio at risk (PAR).
    • Initiate recovery procedures for delinquent loans, including restructuring where necessary.
  5. Compliance & Reporting:
    • Ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines and internal credit policies.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and loan documentation.
    • Prepare periodic reports on loan portfolio performance and risk assessment.

Key Qualifications & Competencies:

Education: A degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Banking, or a related field.

Experience: At least 1-3 years of experience in microfinance, banking, or credit-related roles.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and financial assessment skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Customer-oriented with strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and loan management systems.

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel and work in rural/underprivileged communities.
  • Understanding of microfinance principles and risk management strategies.
  • Ethical and professional conduct with a high level of integrity.
