The Mo Ibrahim Foundation (MIF) is currently hiring for two exciting full-time roles based in London (Marylebone) with hybrid working options. Position 1: Data Manager / Senior Data Scientist

Job Summary
This role is critical to leading and evolving MIF’s data strategy, particularly around the Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG). The ideal candidate will combine technical proficiency, strategic leadership, and a passion for impactful data science in the African governance landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Data Strategy & Architecture
- Lead the Foundation’s overall data strategy and implementation.
- Design, manage, and optimise data models and pipelines.
- Manage structured and unstructured datasets using cloud platforms.
IIAG Development
- Oversee the ongoing methodological refinement of the IIAG.
- Ensure data integrity, transparency, and reproducibility.
- Integrate innovative data sources (e.g. big data, geospatial, real-time).
Machine Learning & Analytics
- Deploy machine learning models and advanced analytics.
- Automate data collection, validation, and analysis pipelines.
Team Collaboration & Leadership

- Mentor junior data analysts and researchers.
- Coordinate with research, digital, design, and communications teams.
Dissemination & Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with digital teams to build dashboards and visual tools.
- Represent MIF in working groups and data partnerships.
Required Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree in data science, statistics, mathematics, or a related field.
- 3–5 years’ experience in a data-focused role in governance, policy, or development sectors.
- Demonstrated experience managing large-scale datasets or indexes.
Technical Skills
- Advanced Python (pandas, scikit-learn, NumPy); SQL desirable.
- Knowledge of PowerBI, Tableau, Plotly, or Streamlit.
- Familiarity with Spark, Hadoop, or cloud computing (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Experience with data warehousing, ETL processes, API integrations.
- Proficiency in Git and CI/CD workflows.
Core Competencies
- Strategic and analytical thinking.
- Excellent communication of technical data to non-experts.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on transparency and reproducibility.
- Ability to thrive in multicultural, collaborative environments.
- Fluency in English is essential; French or Arabic desirable.
Position 2: Junior Researcher / Analyst

Job Summary
The Junior Researcher will contribute to the Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG) and the Ibrahim Forum Report. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals passionate about African governance, development, and policy research.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct desk-based research and data analysis.
- Draft literature reviews and syntheses from multiple sources.
- Contribute to reports, briefs, presentations, and data visualisations.
- Help calculate and conduct thematic analysis for the IIAG.
- Identify new governance indicators and data sources.
- Assist with events such as the Ibrahim Governance Weekend.
- Provide logistical and editorial support as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., policy, economics, governance).
- 1–2 years of experience in research or data analysis (internships count).
- Understanding of African governance and development frameworks.
- Experience with data analysis tools and techniques.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Numerate and data-literate; proficient in Excel.
- Knowledge of R, Stata, or Tableau is a plus.
- Highly organised, adaptable, and team-oriented.
- Fluent in English; French or Arabic desirable.
