National Specialist – Egg Processing Plant (EPP) FAO at Food and Agriculture Organization: (Deadline 13 November 2022)
Organizational Setting
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (“FAO” or “Organization”) is an intergovernmental organization with more than 194 member nations. The main aim of FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve security and reduce hunger and malnutrition to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forest sectors, and use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
Reporting Lines
The National Specialist will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative to Rwanda (who is the project budget holder) and direct supervision of the Assistant FAOR/Programme in close collaboration of the National Project Manager and the FAO project Lead Technical Officer (LTO); who would support the project implementation from the FAO Sub-regional Office for Eastern Africa (SFE) and in close consultation with the international expert to develop a feasibility study on an Egg Processing Plant (EPP) including possible Business plans for Rwanda.
Technical Focus
The technical focus of the work of the national specialist is to assist the International expert in the development of the Egg Production Pilot Plant (EPPP) Business plan for Rwanda. The activity will be implemented in collaboration with MINAGRI, Rwanda Agricultural and Animal Resource Board (RAB) and egg Farmer/producer representatives. This assignment will dig deep on the current findings related to the level of eggs production, markets, and post-harvest losses as well as the available skills and technologies that are adding value to the produced eggs in Rwanda.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The main tasks to be implemented are as follow:
• Conduct a feasibility study for an Egg Processing Plant in Rwanda
• Elaborate various types of egg processing plants in the region to match it in the Rwandan context
• Identify types of egg processing plants appropriate in the Rwandan context,
• Identify Egg powder processing machines and other materials required to run it will be proposed.
• Develop a knowledge-based and market-oriented plan
• Conduct a professional training on egg processing technology, quality standards, and certification to various actors in egg subsectors including local entrepreneurs for project beneficiaries,
• Develop an environmental, social, and economic risks mitigation strategies for egg producers and local entrepreneurs trained in egg processing technology, quality standards, and certification.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• At least Master’s degree in veterinary medicine, Animal production or animal sciences
• Having at least 5 years of working experience in veterinary medicine, Animal production or animal sciences,
• Being a Rwandan by Nationality or having a working permit in Rwanda
• Working knowledge of English

• Strong analytical skills, knowledge of governance in veterinary sciences, animal breeding and Previous similar engagement/involvement in poultry industry development strategies

• Having background in poultry industry assessment/surveys
• Past work experience with international organizations is an advantages
• Demonstrate ability to perform in depth statistical and quantitative &qualitative analysis and report the results in multiple formats including reports presentations
• Demonstrated ability to perform in-depth statistical and quantitative& qualitative analysis and report the results in multiple formats including reports, papers and presentations
• Having past experience in conducting related Eggs production assessments
• Strong background in livestock production systems and poultry resources assessment/survey
• A record of Research publications,
• Show familiarity with poultry farming development strategies
• Demonstrated experience and capacity in the overall framework of the Rwanda poultry industry strategic plans development.
• Sound expertise in conducting situational analyses engaging public institutions and other development stakeholders.
• Capable to work independently and perform under tight deadlines.
• Good inter-personal and teamwork skills, networking aptitude, ability to engage effectively with policy and decision makers;
