
NRF/SARAO Graduate In-Training Programme 2026 for young South African graduates (Deadline: 17 November, 2025)
Applications are now open for the 2026 NRF/SARAO Graduate In-Training Programme. The SARAO Graduate In-Training Programme is designed to provide recent graduates with practical experience in their fields of study, particularly in the context of radio astronomy and related disciplines. This program aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application by offering hands-on training, mentorship, and exposure to cutting-edge projects.
Graduates in this program may work on various aspects of radio astronomy, including engineering, data science, software development, and project management. They gain valuable skills and experience that can help them advance their careers in the industry or academia.
Eligibility:
• BEng/BScEng (Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical/ Mechatronics, Civil)
• BEng/BScEng (Computer Science), BSc(Hons) Computer Science
• B. Eng or B.Tech (Civil Engineering)
• MSc (Electronics, Radio Frequency, Antennas)

Program Details
- Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a mandatory online assessment as part of the selection process.
- Successful graduates will be placed in SARAO Cape Town, Losberg Site (Northern Cape) and Hartebeesthoek (HartRAO) Offices for a period of 3 years, commencing in 1 March 2026.
- SARAO will offer financial assistance to successful graduates who register for a Masters degree (part-time), at a South African university while in the graduate programme.
