Job description
Reporting to the head of Crop Innovation & Technology Transfer Department, the Plant & & Microbial biotechnology Program Coordinator Senior Principal Research Fellow has the following responsibilities:
– Provide overall leadership and coordination of all research and technology transfer activities of Plant & Microbial Biotechnology Program based on priorities and policies of the country.
– Coordinate mobilization of financial resources for research through proposal writing for competitive funding.
– Ensure mentorship for scientists under her/ his supervision in Plant & Microbial Biotechnology Program in conception, planning, monitoring and evaluation of research and extension projects.
– Establish and maintain effective collaboration with other researchers, locally, regionally and internationally, in area of Plant & Microbial Biotechnology.
– Ensure the local, regional and international visibility of the institution through participating in meetings, seminars, conferences, extension services, and publishing research works in Plant & Microbial Biotechnology.
– Ensure and sustain collaboration and exchanges with other research and extension Programs within RAB in the field of Plant and Microbial Biotechnology.
– Participating in developing and implementing the institutional work plan and budget execution of the budget approved, and institutional imihigo and performance contracts
– Ensure a good budget execution and implementation of institution performance contracts;
– Ensure the adequate management of resources under his or her responsibilities to have a clean report.
– Ensure a good budget execution and implementation of institution performance contracts.
– Compile, edit and submit the quarterly and annual reports on the implementation progress of Plant and Microbial Biotechnology activities;
– Conduct regular meeting with the Program staff on progress of implementation of the work plan
– Undertake other duties as assigned by the Head of department and other RAB Senior Managers

Having led or contributed to the production and dissemination of twenty (20) extension materials including technical guidelines, documentary films, and other extension materials for innovations aiming to increase farmer’s production, productivity and resilience capacitie

Being conversant with national and sector policies and development agenda

Proven experience to work with farmers and industry stakeholders in research and extension
-
Extensive understanding of the National and International context of Biotechnology Research and Development and ability to develop a comprehensive research agenda for Plant and Microbial Biotechnology Program in line with national strategic planning framework
