POGO – ITCOocean Training Program on Ocean Observations for Coastal Applications 2024: (Deadline: 18 December, 2023)
Applications are open for the POGO – ITCOocean Training Program on Ocean Observations for Coastal Applications 2024. Understanding of fishery oceanography is needed by many young researchers. This course is devised, to familiarize the young professionals in the Indian ocean-rim (IOR) countries with the latest developments in this field.
The UN have proclaimed 2021-30 as decade of ocean science for sustainable development and one of the important challenges identified under it is to feed global populations sustainably while ensuring health of the marine ecosystems.
Aims and Objectives
- To make the participants thorough with various aspects of oceanography.
- To develop understanding of influence of oceanographic processes to the fisheries.
- To familiarize participants with various tools/approaches being used by researchers in this field.
Funding Support
There are no fees for this course.
- Limited support is available for participants.
- Preference will be given to participants who seek partial support and co-fund their training with other source(s).
- Participants who seek support need to clearly choose option for support and provide details on co-funding at relevant section of the application.
- Organizers will arrange for all trainees, one-way transportation to Visakhapatnam (Vizag) and accommodation for two-three nights at no-cost to the trainees.
- INCOIS provides opportunity to the trainees to participate in the Indian Ocean regional Ocean Decade conference coinciding the duration of the training, by extending its in-kind support for accommodation and food at par of the training days.
Eligibility
- Target audiences include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Postgraduate students.
- Staff and researchers working on ocean observations and its applications
- Marine industry professionals
- Candidates should have a basic knowledge of marine properties and parameters and preferably be working in institution which has access to marine observations.
- Seaworthiness (part of the training i.e., field sampling will be on a boat).
- Working knowledge of English.
- Participants should preferably bring their own laptops.

The training course will be held in-person at ITCOocean, Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad, India. Training Dates: January 29 – February 2024
