TENDER ANNOUNCEMENT

ABOUT NATURE RWANDA
Nature Rwanda is a conservation organization dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems in a way that fosters a sustainable future and leads to social and economic transformation in communities while addressing issues that threaten the coexistence of humans and nature.
OVERVIEW INFORMATION
Since January 2023, Nature Rwanda, in partnership with BirdLife International and with the support from TerraFund for AFR100, is implementing a six-year restoration project in the Lake Kivu/Rusizi River Basin. This project aims to reduce climate vulnerability and improve livelihoods of communities in Bweyeye and Butare sectors whilst contributing to the national land degradation neutrality and Forest Landscape Restoration targets.
The project focuses on three key pillars:
- Agroforestry and Fruit Tree Planting: Enhance soil quality and stability, and improve community livelihoods through the integration of agroforestry and fruit trees.
- Capacity Building: Promote best practices in land restoration and sustainable land management.
- Supporting livelihood: Promote alternative income-generating activities to improve household economic stability and reduce reliance on environmentally destructive practice, while fostering sustainable socio-economic transformation.
To improve community livelihoods, Nature Rwanda is supporting farmers who accepted to grow trees on their farms as model restoration actors, by providing them with essential agriculture tools to enhance tree maintenance and farming activities. These farmers have shown outstanding commitment to the project’s objectives by actively engaging in tree planting, maintenance, and the adoption of sustainable land management practices. This is a sign of recognition of the efforts of local communities in supporting restoration efforts and supporting them in accessing the tools they need to improve their farming practices.
