Pulses and oil crops Program Coordinator Senior Research Fellow at RWANDA AGRICULTURE AND ANIMAL RESOURCES DEVELOPEMENT BOARD (RAB): (Deadline 21 June 2022)
Reporting to the Head of Innovation and Technology Transfer Department, the Pulses and Oil Crops Program Coordinator, Senior Research Fellow has the following responsibilities:
– Provide overall leadership and coordination of all activities including research, technology generation, technology transfer, dissemination and extension activities of pulses and oils crops
– Articulate research agenda for pulses and oil crops breeding, agronomy diseases or pest control aligning with government policies and national priorities
– Develop and implement research and extension activities for pulses and oil crops in accordance with approved work plans and budgets
– Lead planning and overseeing extension services for massive dissemination of new technologies, innovations, knowledge and skills to farmers and other agro-industry stakeholders in the value chain of Pulses and Oil
Crops
– Ensure mentorship for scientists and technical staff under his /her supervision in Pulses and Oil Crops program in conception, planning, monitoring and evaluation of crop production and conservation research activities
/ projects
– Establish and maintain effective collaboration with other researchers, locally, regionally and internationally, in area of breeding, agronomy, pest and diseases, etc related to pulses and oil crops
– Coordinate mobilization of financial resources for research through proposal writing of competitive funding
– Analyze, disseminate extension materials and research findings and publish in peer reviewed journals, scientific conferences, books and book chapters
– Participate in meetings, seminars, conferences relevant to the field of Pulses and Oil Crops and bring visibility of RAB in local and international forums
– Ensure and sustain collaboration and exchanges with other RAB programs especially the Plant protection program for Pest and disease management and the seed division for the production of Early Generation seed
categories and seed standards and Postharvest Management Division for post-harvest handling and nutrition aspects
– Participating in developing and implementing the institutional work plan and budget execution under his or her responsibilities and implementation of institution performance contracts
– Ensure the adequate management of resources under his or her responsibilities and ensure clean audit report when queries are raised
– Compile, edit and submit the quarterly and annual reports on the implementation progress of Pulses and Oil Crops program activities
– Conduct regular meeting with the Program staff on the progress of implementation of approved work plan
– Undertake other duties as assigned by the Head of department and other RAB Senior Managers

Having led or contributed to the production and dissemination of sixteen (16) extension materials including technical guidelines, documentary films, and other extension materials for innovations aiming to increase farmer’s production, productivity and resilience capacities

Having led the generation of at least one (1) innovation or technology for agriculture development

Having led to the writing and won at least one (1) funded project for agriculture development

Having five (5) publications as first author and seven (7) publications as a co-author in a peer-reviewed journal
-
Having at least eight (8) years of relevant working experience in agricultural research and/or extension, including substantial experience working on beans, the main pulse crop on national scale

Being conversant with national and sector policies and development agenda

Proven experience to work with farmers and industry stakeholders in research and extension
-
Understanding of the National and International contexts of Pulses and Oil Crops Production, Research and Development, and ability to develop a comprehensive research agenda for pulses and oil crops in line with the national strategic planning framework

Capacity in project development and resource Mobilization
