IITA, in collaboration with other CGIAR centres and Wageningen University is working on a Bill and Melinda Gates funded project, 1000Farms. IITA leads the research on standardising approaches for crowdsourcing information to select varieties. IITA is also piloting a platform for crowdsourcing high-frequency diet quality and food item flow data. The research Associate will be hired to support in the day-day activities on 1000Farms and other projects, involving visits to the field, interactions with partners and stakeholders, development of reports and communication materials, and basic analytics
About the position
Research Associate will support in several citizen-science and data science projects to advance research on participatory technology selection and improve understanding of diets in Rwanda.
Main duties and responsibilities include:

Lead activities in identifying mechanisms for streamlining crowdsourcing of data across different platforms and with different stakeholders.

Document research protocols and coordinate with partners to collate feedback and iteratively improve documentation and support in capacity development.

Coordinate setting up of field trials, conducting surveys, and implementing citizen-science approaches.

Collaborate with IITA staff and partners in project implementation and timely delivery of project deliverables and reporting.

Liaise with project staff and partners to ensure timely activity implementation, reporting, and support in data analysis.

Communicate project outputs through presentations, seminars, and social media.
Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, agricultural sciences, or related field and demonstrated experience of at least 2 years.

Experience with project implementation and supporting research activities

Background in field trial implementation, data collection activities, and basic data

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Kinyarwanda are required.

Experience working in an international context interacting with multi-disciplinary stakeholders is desirable.

Knowledge of R/Python or other statistical programming is desirable
Terms of employment
This is a nationally recruited position based in IITA Office, Kigali- Rwanda. The contract will be for One-year period, subject to a probation period of three (3) months and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.
