
Rise Up Leadership & Advocacy Program in Kenya 2025 ($17,000 grant) Deadline: 14 April, 2025
Applications are open for the Rise Up Leadership & Advocacy Program in Kenya 2025. Global nonprofit Rise Up will select a group of visionary local leaders from Kenya to participate in their intensive Leadership and Advocacy Accelerator training to strengthen gender equity and justice from July 14 19, 2025. Through Rise Up’s program, these local leaders will advance transformational change in their organizations and communities, and champion improved national and local laws, programs, and funding for women, girls, and gender-nonconforming people.
Rise Up will select, train, and invest in local civil society leaders to make progress on gender equity by advancing girls’ education in Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado and Machakos Counties. The newly selected leaders in Kenya will become part of Rise Up’s global network of leaders in Africa, Latin America, South Asia, and the United States who are creating a future where all people can thrive. Rise Up builds power with women, girls, and their allies by providing training, funding, and connection to a global network to help them achieve meaningful, lasting change. Since 2009, Rise Up’s powerful network of over 800 leaders has successfully advocated for 218 new and improved laws and policies, positively impacting more than 172 million people around the world.
Grants
- Rise Up will competitively award grants of $17,000 USD to participating leaders and their organizations.
Eligibility
- Civil Society leaders of minimum 18 years of age at the time of the training in July 2025.
- Currently working in Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado or Machakos Counties.
- Has a personal interest and current commitment to promoting gender equity broadly in the three priority areas of health, education, and economic opportunity for women, girls, and gender-nonconforming people.
- Represents or works closely with marginalized groups from socially or economically marginalized communities, women and girls with disabilities, ethnic and/or religious minorities, and other historically disadvantaged populations.
- Ability to participate in an in-person training from July 14-19, 2025, with some virtual sessions pre-and-post training. Please note that Rise Up will cover all costs related to program participation, including transportation, accommodation, food, and materials.
- Currently works at a non-profit organization, civil society organization, media organization, or government organization at a level of coordination or management and has some level of decision-making power.
- Has the support of your organization’s leadership to participate in Rise Up’s Leadership and Advocacy Accelerator training.
- To be eligible for a grant, Rise Up requires organizations to be legally registered in country and set up to receive international funds. Entities that are not registered can be sponsored by another financial entity or fiscal sponsor. Note: Government organizations are not eligible to receive grants through this program.
- Proficient in oral and written English.
