Aim and Benefits of RMIT University RMIT Latin American PhD Scholarships

RMIT Latam scholarship provides recipients with:

  • A stipend/ living allowance at the annual rate (AU$34,841 in 2024) for a maximum of 3.5 years
  • A tuition fee scholarship at the applicable program rate for 4 years and Visa length OSHC 

Requirements for RMIT University RMIT Latin American PhD Scholarships Qualification

Applicants must be citizens of Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico. (Applicants with dual citizenship with Australia are ineligible).

Scholarships are awarded based on a competitive selection process that ranks applicants according to their academic achievement, research outputs and relevant professional experience.

Priority is given to applicants who:

  • Have achieved a high distinction in the final two years of the qualifying program(s). At RMIT a grade of high distinction represents an academic achievement of 80% or higher
  • May be considered by RMIT as having an equivalent level of academic attainment, considering previous study, relevant work experience, research publications and other research experience
  • Must take receipt of a scholarship for a minimum 12-month duration on a full-time basis (or part-time equivalent) because of prior enrolment in a graduate research program
  • Have not already completed a graduate research program at the same or higher course level. For example, PhD applicants should not have already completed a PhD
  • Will to be enrolled and primarily based at an RMIT Australian campus.
  • International applicants must meet English language requirements by the application closing date to be considered for a scholarship.
  • Applicants from Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico can receive a 35% fee reduction on ELICOS programs at RMIT Training. RMIT PhD scholarship does NOT cover ELICOS program tuition fees.

Part-time study load is not accepted.

Scholarship applicants already enrolled in a research degree must have:

  • More than 24 months remaining of PhD candidature as at 1 January 2024 or more than 12 months remaining of master’s candidature.

You will be considered ineligible for a tuition fee scholarship if:

  • You are applying for or undertaking a Masters by Research and you already hold a Research Doctorate, Research Masters or an equivalent research qualification
  • You are applying for or undertaking a Research Doctorate and you already hold a Research Doctorate or an equivalent research qualification, or Competitive Selection

These scholarships are awarded through the University’s research scholarship rounds and scholarships will be awarded to the most competitive applicants.

Interview date, Process and Venue for RMIT University RMIT Latin American PhD Scholarships

Applicants should peruse the advertised PhD projects, select a project and draft their Expression of Interest (EOI) for a specific project. Applicants must make contact with the project supervisor and provide evidence of supervision in the online application.

Must commence your PhD studies in the scholarship between January to May 2024.
