Sankore Call for Proposals: 2024 Strengthening Innovation and Technology across West Africa: (Deadline 25 October, 2024)
Sankore is a new £1.9 million Accountable Grant delivery mechanism that will strengthen innovation systems in Nigeria and Ghana. It will strengthen research commercialisation, innovation policy and support innovation system projects that align with national and regional priorities for science, technology and innovation.
Named after a historical place of learning in West Africa, Sankore will be delivered under the Africa Technology and Innovation Partnerships (ATIP) programme.

Aim and Benefits of Sankore Call for Proposals: Strengthening Innovation and Technology
The technical framework for the call for proposals outlines:
- Support the UK government’s partnership with the governments in Ghana and Nigeria on science, technology and innovation
- Work with Ghana’s Ministry of Science Technology & Innovation (MESTI) and Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Innovation Science and Technology (FMIST) to facilitate the commercialisation of innovative solutions
- Improve the innovation and/or technology policy and regulatory environment
- Strengthen government digital delivery services in Nigeria and Ghana
- Develop a demand responsive helpdesk to support technology and innovation systems strengthening projects
Requirements for Sankore Call for Proposals: Strengthening Innovation and Technology Qualification
We are seeking interest from organisations with:
- A lead implementing partner with the capacity to engage and coordinate a diverse range of downstream partners
- A lead implementing partner that is a non-profit organisation (including UN agencies) based in Ghana or Nigeria and have deep understanding of local context
- A legally registered entity in Nigeria or Ghana
- Proven experience working with public and private sector stakeholders for innovation systems strengthening and national policy influencing in Ghana and Nigeria
