The SBW Berlin Scholarship for International Students supports talented young people from abroad who have already demonstrated social commitment and who use the skills they have acquired during their studies in social projects at a non-profit/social organization in their home countries during and after their studies.

During their studies in Berlin, they use their scholarship to work on social projects. These projects should ideally be part of the charitable work of organizations based in their home countries and/or contribute to improving living conditions in those countries.

After successfully completing their studies, their scholarship recipients are expected to continue and advance projects in their home countries using the skills they learned here. SBW Berlin continues to provide advisory services to them.

Benefits:

SBW Berlin Scholarship recipients receive the following benefits:

• A room in one of their Berlin shared student apartments.
• Allowance for living expenses calculated in section IX.
• Tuition costs.
• A travel allowance may also be provided for your trip to Berlin prior to the start of your studies, as well as your return trip home after you have completed your studies.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must have the following:

• Between the ages of 18 and 30 years old
• Experience in the non-profit/social sector (supported by letters of recommendation from the social institution or non-profit organization).
• Have not resided in Germany for more than 18 months prior to applying.
• Qualification for university admission.
• Intention to work in the country of origin for at least 18 months after graduation or to engage in charitable activities in Germany until the repayment plan is completed.
• Proven low net income (refer to guidelines).
• A grade point average of at least 2.0 in German is required.
• There are no first-degree family members who live permanently in Germany.
• Application prior to the start of studies or enrollment in the first, second, or maximum third semester of a state-recognized university (in Germany or abroad) or application for a master’s degree shortly before or after obtaining a bachelor’s degree
• Applicants should keep in mind that an application to a university or university of applied sciences (Fachhochschule) in Berlin or Potsdam is required. This is done independently of the scholarship application, so applicants are responsible for it.

Documents Requrement:

• Letter of motivation (one or two pages).
• A copy of your most recent school or university diploma, indicating your grade point average.
• A copy of your highest academic degree (high school diploma or university diploma), including your grade point average and a grade overview.
• Income statement for four families.
• Two letters of recommendation for the applicant from previous professors.
• CV.
• The application form is available on the scholarship’s official website.
