ScottishPower Logistics Apprentice – Energy Networks Internship 2024: (Deadline 10 March, 2024)
Our energy landscape is going through a time of profound change. A challenge touching every part of our society, we need to eradicate carbon emissions to halt the effects of climate change. We need to change how we live our lives and replace the use of fossil fuels for transport and heat.
Electricity will be at the heart of the solution, through electric vehicles and heat pumps. And with more renewables generation and other technologies connected to the electricity grid than ever before, it’s our role to make sure we create a more efficient, cleaner, greener network to accommodate this increase in demand.
Within SP Energy Networks, we are focusing on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future. With distribution networks designed for predictable, stable demand, it’s vital we upgrade our network to create the flexibility required to cope with the extensive changes to electricity demand, generation and consumer behaviour. Through technology and innovation, we will enable a consumer-led revolution in the use and operation of our system. It will undergo the biggest changes to its design and operation for over half a century and you can be part of it.
You’ll find more information about SP Energy Networks, including details of our current projects, on our website (opens in a new window).
What you’ll be doing:
As we drive towards Net Zero, our business is increasing investment in cleaner and greener technology and materials. With plans to accelerate the electrification of transport and heating, it’s vital that our business has the materials it needs for this electric revolution. And with this change, we need even more supplies to deliver these innovative projects. Our Logistics Team is responsible for ensuring our business has all the materials needed to operate, maintain and upgrade our network safely and efficiently. Receiving and managing materials into our distribution centre, we’re responsible for cataloguing and distributing materials to facilitate the delivery of these key projects, and even more crucially, the day-to-day running of the business. With commitments to achieve Net Zero as early as 2030, we’re working hard to create a more sustainable and efficient network for our customers, communities and stakeholders and we need Logistics Apprentices to help us deliver.
As a Logistics Apprentice, you’ll be responsible for receiving materials into our warehouse. You’ll need to learn to drive and operate a forklift truck safely and competently – but don’t worry, we’ll provide and pay for your training. You’ll be responsible for checking the condition of the stock when it arrives and departs from our distribution centre, and you’ll make sure that our stock management system is kept updated – because without this our business cannot function. We’re a 24/7, 365 days a year business and it’s vital that we ALWAYS have the materials required to operate and maintain our network. So, your role in scrutinising the condition of stock and preparing materials for despatch to local depot is essential in helping us deliver a reliable service to our customers.
During the programme you will gain practical experience and knowledge in all aspects of logistics operations, with the aim of becoming a skilled professional in the field. You will be provided with specialised training and gain knowledge in the logistics field which can be transferrable to various roles in the industry.
