JOB VACANCY FOR THE POSITION OF SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Background

Mister Roof Ltd is a private company based in Rwanda dedicated to providing high-quality roofing products, expert advice, and certified labor in accordance with industry standards.

We are seeking a highly skilled, self-motivated, and experienced individual to fill the position of Senior Accountant.

Position overview

Under the supervision of the Chief Finance Officer (CFO), the Senior Accountant will oversee the effective management of company funds, ensure timely payments, and ensure compliance with financial regulations. This role involves managing the company’s financial operations, including financial accounting, reporting, budget monitoring, and providing strategic financial advice to the CFO.

Main Responsibilities

Financial accounting

  • Verify and process all invoices related to suppliers of goods, works, and services, ensuring that supporting documents are attached.
  • Perform daily data entry of accounting transactions using the Odoo system, adhering to the approved chart of accounts.
  • Submit invoices and payment requests to the CFO for approval, ensuring all supporting documents are included.
  • Produce payment vouchers for review by the CFO and approval by the CEO.
  • Prepare sales orders for confirmed quotations and EBM invoices after confirming manufacturing and delivery in the Odoo system.
  • Analyze accounting and inventory records to ensure accuracy and compliance with reporting standards.
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and journal entries.
  • Record bank transactions, perform reconciliations, and manage petty cash disbursements.
  • Update asset register records, depreciation schedules, and reconcile with the Odoo system.
  • Monitor company expenses to ensure compliance with company policies and accurate allocation to analytical accounts for each project.
  • Conduct monthly physical inventory counts for all Mister Roof warehouses and reconcile with the Odoo system.
  • Establish and maintain a reliable and comprehensive filing system for company financial documents.

Financial reporting

  • Prepare quarterly financial statements and submit them to the CFO by the 15th of the following month.
  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, including the statement of profit or loss, financial position, changes in equity, and cash flow.
  • Support management reporting by providing accurate and timely financial data and analysis.
  • Prepare and maintain schedules for revenue recognition and project accounting using the percentage of completion method.
  • Generate ad hoc reports to support decision-making and strategic initiatives.

Tax and Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Rwanda tax regulations (VAT, PAYE, RSSB, WHT, INCOME TAX)
  • Prepare and file tax returns accurately and in a timely manner;
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all tax-related transactions and ensure they are reported according to Rwandan tax laws;
  • Stay informed about changes and updates in tax laws and regulations affecting the construction industry and other relevant sectors;
  • Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and reviews related to tax compliance and financial reporting.

Budget monitoring

  • Regularly compare the amounts quoted in sales quotations to the actual expenses incurred to ensure they align with budgeted amounts;
  • Reconcile discrepancies between the budgeted amounts and actual expenditures. Identify and investigate variances;
  • Keep detailed records of quotations, purchase orders, and expense reports;
  • Work closely with design and procurement officer to understand the financial implications of quotations and ensure that all costs are accounted for;
  • Ensure that all expenses are within the approved company’s annual budget and action plan;

Qualifications & Skills requirements

Qualifications and experiences

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Management.
  • Professional qualification in accounting such as ACCA or CPA is preferred. CPA Part II is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a finance or accounting role. Knowledge of the construction and manufacturing sectors is an advantage.

Knowledge

  • Solid knowledge of financial and accounting procedures.
  • Deep understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and IAS.
  • Knowledge of preparing and analyzing company’s financial statements.
  • Understanding of local tax regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing tax returns and managing tax audits.
  • Knowledge of electronic and paper filing systems.
  • Familiar with any or multiple financial management and accounting software’s. (ex: QuickBooks, Sage, SAP, Odoo being highly preferred.
  • Good computer skills and extensive knowledge of Excel, Word and Power Point.

Required skills

  • Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and make recommendations based on insights.
  • Skills in financial forecasting and budgeting.
  • Precision in reviewing financial documents and ensuring accuracy in reporting.
  • Capacity to identify discrepancies and inconsistencies in financial data.
  • Proficiency in resolving complex accounting issues and discrepancies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with management, auditors, and other stakeholders.
