Job Summary:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in overseeing and managing the mechanical systems for a large hospital project. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for supervising the installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, medical gas systems, and fire protection. The role requires a deep understanding of healthcare-specific mechanical infrastructure, ensuring that systems meet project specifications, timelines, and healthcare standards.

This position involves coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, managing site activities, and ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Mechanical Systems Execution:

  • Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of hospital mechanical systems, including HVAC Systems, Plumbing and Drainage Systems, Medical Gas Systems, and Fire Protection Systems.
  • Ensure systems are installed in accordance with design drawings, specifications, and healthcare regulations.
  • Supervise the procurement, inspection, and installation of materials and equipment.

Coordination and Communication:

  • Collaborate with MEP teams, consultants, subcontractors, and main contractors to resolve conflicts and ensure smooth project execution.
  • Act as the key liaison for mechanical systems, coordinating with electrical and civil teams for integrated solutions.
  • Attend project meetings, providing technical input and status updates.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with healthcare standards (e.g., ASHRAENFPAHTM, and local codes).
  • Conduct quality checks, inspections, and verifications to confirm installation accuracy and performance.
  • Resolve technical and on-site challenges efficiently while maintaining project quality.

Testing, Commissioning, and Handover:

  • Oversee the testing, balancing, and commissioning of HVAC systems and other mechanical infrastructure.
  • Ensure all systems meet performance criteria, safety standards, and client requirements.
  • Prepare as-built drawings, test reports, and operation and maintenance manuals for handover.

Project Management:

  • Plan, schedule, and manage mechanical works to ensure project milestones and deadlines are met.
  • Monitor resource utilization, material availability, and progress of subcontractors.
  • Manage variations, change orders, and ensure alignment with the project budget.

Risk and Safety Management:

  • Identify and mitigate risks related to mechanical installations to avoid delays or technical issues.
  • Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental protocols on-site.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and enforce safety measures with site teams.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare progress reports, technical submittals, method statements, and inspection reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of site activities, material logs, and test certificates.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Over 10 years of experience, with a proven track record of executing and successfully handing over a hospital project.
    – Have previously worked and executed projects that include Chiller plant rooms, Boiler room, Hot water plant room and LPG system
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and infrastructure in hospitals, including infection control requirements, ventilation standards, and cleanroom design.
  • Familiarity with codes and standards such as ASHRAENFPASMACNAHTM, and local building codes.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting design drawings, shop drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to use software tools such as AutoCADRevit MEP, and project management tools
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills to supervise site teams and contractors.
  • Strong communication skills to engage with stakeholders, consultants, and clients.
  • Detail-oriented, with a focus on quality and compliance with project specifications.
