Job Summary:
The Structural Engineering BIM Technician will be responsible for preparing high-quality shop drawings and structural models for various construction projects, ensuring that all designs meet the required standards and are coordinated effectively across all teams. If you have strong experience in drafting and BIM workflows, along with a keen eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities:
- BIM Modelling & Coordination: Develop, maintain, and coordinate 3D BIM models for structural engineering projects using Revit. Ensure seamless integration of structural components with other disciplines (architecture, MEP, etc.), maintaining model accuracy and project coordination.
- Shop Drawing Preparation: Prepare detailed and accurate shop drawings for the fabrication and construction phase. This includes reinforcing steel details, structural connections, foundation layouts, and other critical elements, ensuring all dimensions and specifications align with the project design.
- Drafting & Detailing: Create comprehensive structural drawings such as foundation plans, floor plans, structural layouts, and reinforcement details using Revit and AutoCAD, adhering to project requirements and standards.
- Collaboration with Engineers & Contractors: Work closely with structural engineers, architects, contractors, and other project team members to ensure that the shop drawings and structural models are aligned with design intent and construction requirements.
- Quality Control: Review and check drawings and models for design accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant building codes, standards, and project specifications. Conduct checks on construction details to ensure they are clear, precise, and buildable.
- Revit Family Creation & Management: Develop and manage Revit families for structural components, ensuring their proper functionality and consistency across the project.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare, organize, and maintain project documentation, including drawing revisions, change orders, and submittals. Keep a record of design changes, ensuring proper communication with all stakeholders.
Requirements:
- HND, Degree, or equivalent in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in structural drafting within a construction environment, with a strong focus on BIM and Revit.
- Experience in preparing shop drawings for construction projects is essential.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Revit for creating, modifying, and managing structural models, with a strong understanding of structural components and reinforcement detailing.
- Solid skills in AutoCAD for drafting and creating structural drawings.
- Thorough understanding of BIM processes and standards, including integration and collaboration with other disciplines through platforms like Autodesk BIM 360.
- A strong understanding of structural engineering principles, construction materials, and local civil engineering drawings, including site layouts, drainage plans, road designs, earthworks, and utility layouts, building codes and regulations.
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail in preparing drawings, ensuring the proper representation of design intent and compliance with industry standards.
- Experience with additional BIM software tools like Tekla Structures or Navisworks is a plus.
- Familiarity with advanced Revit tools such as Dynamo for automation and customization.
- Understanding of sustainable design practices in construction.
- Experience in producing civil engineering drawings, including site layouts, drainage plans, road designs, earthworks, and utility layouts is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, both written.
