HIRING A MATHEMATICS TEACHER IN THE ACCELERATED EDUCATION PROGRAM OF ETM GASHORA IN 2025

BACKGROUND

With the purpose of promoting the living conditions of evacuees from Libya hosted in GASHORA ETM, World Vision Rwanda is implementing WASH, EDUCATION, AND LIVELIHOOD TO REFUGEES, RETURNEES, ASYLUM SEEKERS, AND HOST COMMUNITY project in GASHORA ETM under the UNHCR fund in the year 2025. The major goal of livelihood activities is to facilitate evacuees and host community members to have more income, increased well-being, reduced vulnerability, and improved food security for evacuees and other populations of concern. WVR provides an education program for adult refugees to learn languages and cross-cultural Education. While also providing universal Education for refugee children in form of an Accelerated Education Program.

Education is a fundamental human right and essential for exercising all other human rights. It promotes individual freedom and empowerment and yields important development benefits. Education is a powerful tool by which economically and socially marginalized adults and children can lift themselves out of poverty and participate fully as citizens. Refugees and asylum-seekers have the same right of education as all other people in the world.

It is in this objective that World Vision Rwanda under UNHCR fund is implementing the ACCELERATED EDUCATION PROGRAM (AEP) which is flexible to the context of ETM Gashora refugees. It aims to provide access to Education for disadvantaged, over-age, out-of-school children and youth. The goal of accelerated Education Programs is to provide learners with equivalent, certified competencies for basic education using effective teaching and learning approaches that match their level of maturity. This approach uses different techniques like accelerated learning, catch-up programs, bridging programs, and remedial programs.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop and provide a condensed, levelled, age-appropriate, competency-based curriculum
  • Integrate accelerated learning principles, pedagogy and practices throughout the curriculum and teacher training
  • Adapt the AEP curriculum, learning materials, language of instruction, and teaching methods to suit over-age children and reflect gender-sensitive and inclusive education practices.
  • Integrate psychosocial well-being and life skills acquisition in the curriculum to address young people’s experiences in conflict-affected and fragile contexts.
  • Ensure the AEP timetable allows for adequate time to cover the curriculum
  • Develop and provide teacher guides
  • Follow National standards and guidelines to maintain a safe and quality learning environment
  • To observe WVR code of conduct and safeguarding policy
  • To fill regular attendance and provide weekly, Bi-weekly, monthly, and annual reports on time
  • To mobilize and sensitize evacuees from Gashora ETM to attend AEP.

The main tasks/responsibilities

  • Prepare a proposed outline of the course training module with the main lessons for the specific advertised service in the present TOR;
  • Present a clear and detailed training/facilitation methodology of teaching mathematics to under age children;
  • Conduct the mathematics training in the respective area (Gashora ETM), in a fixed period upon the date of signing of the agreement up to 31st December 2025;
  • Advice WVR about the mathematics teaching education to be provided to beneficiaries;
  • Produce weekly reports about the attendance/participation of beneficiaries to course training applied for and advice WVR accordingly.

Scope of the work

Accelerated education Program (AEP) is going to be performed in Gashora ETM Center, localized in Gashora sector, Bugesera District, South Western of Rwanda. The teacher needed in this process must have the capacity and experience of the course mathematics teaching to under age children.

Required expertise and qualifications

 The expected qualifications for Mathematics’ teacher are as follows:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with education for the mathematics service provider
  • 1 year of experience in teaching the course applied for
  • Demonstrable expertise in providing course training applied for, including the experience in refugee camps.
  • Being ready and available to provide the training in Gashora ETM within the fixed period in the contract.
  • Having excellent proven capacity or skills in teaching the course applied for

Duration

This agreement will be in effect starting from the day of last signature to 31st December 2025, with the possibility of renewal or extension based on performance.

 Eligibility for Application

All Rwandans (Individuals/Technicians) that fulfill the required experience and qualifications are allowed to apply.
