(Stipend of USD 45,000): The Jane Street Graduate Research Fellowship Apply Now
What the Fellowship Offers
The GRF is more than just financial support — it’s a statement of confidence in the next generation of researchers. Selected Fellows receive:
- Full coverage of tuition and academic fees for the upcoming year
- A stipend of USD 45,000 (or equivalent in local currency) to offset living expenses during the PhD year
- An invitation (optional) to visit Jane Street’s office to present a talk to employees and other Fellows, with travel and lodging expenses covered
- For all finalists (not just the selected Fellows), a USD 5,000 award; Fellows receive this in addition to their stipend
These rewards reflect Jane Street’s commitment not just to supporting research, but to fostering collaboration, exposure, and connection with the broader technical community.
Who Is Eligible?
The GRF is open to doctoral students (or incoming PhD candidates) who meet the following criteria:
- You must be enrolled in or committed to begin a PhD program in electrical engineering & computer science, mathematics, physics, or statistics.
- At least one year must remain in your PhD program at the time of award, or you must be beginning your program in the fall of the following year.
- You must remain a full-time, active student in good academic standing at an accredited research institution in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Europe, Australia, or New Zealand. Deferrals are possible in special cases.
- International students are welcomed and encouraged to apply.
- Those employed by Jane Street, or their immediate family members, are not eligible to become Fellows or Finalists.
Even students whose research lies somewhat outside these core domains may apply, as long as their work has meaningful overlap with the fellowship’s fields of interest.
