
TWAS–SISSA–Lincei Research Visits Programme 2025 – Italy Fellowships for LDC Scientists: (Deadline 15 October 2024)
The TWAS–SISSA–Lincei Programme offers early-career scientists from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) fully funded three-month research visits at top institutions in Italy’s Friuli‑Venezia Giulia region, including Trieste and Udine.
Who Should Apply
- Nationals of UN-designated Least Developed Countries (e.g. Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Rwanda, Uganda)
- Holding an MSc or higher degree
- Aged 40 or below by 31 December of application year
- Working as researchers in an LDC, with projects aligned to UN SDGs and sustainability sciences
- Women scientists are especially encouraged to apply
- Not eligible if already based in Italy during application year

- SISSA (International School for Advanced Studies)
- ICGEB (Centre for Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology)
- INFN (National Institute for Nuclear Physics)
- University of Trieste, University of Udine, Elettra Synchrotron, Area Science Park, and more
What’s Covered
TWAS, SISSA, and the Accademia dei Lincei, with support from Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and AICS, provide:
- Full funding for travel, living expenses, accommodation, and subsistence during the visit
- Research training, mentorship, and access to cutting-edge labs

Application Requirements
Applicants must submit (in English):
- Completed and signed application form
- Copy of passport (bio-data page)
- CV and list of publications
- MSc certificate or higher degree proof
- Statement of scientific interests and SDG-aligned research plan
- Invitation letter from host institution confirming collaboration plan
- Two signed referee letters sent separately to TWAS
Deadline & Selection Process
- Next application deadline: 15 October 2025
- Selection is merit-based, with strong emphasis on potential impact and sustainability relevance
- Shortlisted candidates may be contacted for follow-up if needed
- Notifications typically shared in late 2025 or early 2026
