Cranfield University is proud to participate in the prestigious Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships, a flagship UK government-funded program that offers exceptional students from eligible low and middle-income Commonwealth countries the opportunity to pursue a full-time taught Master’s degree in the United Kingdom.

Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and administered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC), these scholarships aim to empower talented individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary for sustainable development and positive global impact. The award is specifically designed for students who would not otherwise be able to afford to study in the UK.

Available Subjects

Applicants can apply for any full-time taught Master’s program at Cranfield University or any other UK university that has a part-funding agreement with the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC).

Benefits

The Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship is fully funded, covering all major study and living expenses in the UK, including:

 

• Full tuition fees (paid directly to the UK university)
• Approved airfare from the scholar’s home country to the UK and return airfare after completion of studies
• Monthly stipend (living allowance): £1,378 per month (as per 2025–26 rates)
• Warm clothing allowance, if applicable
• Study travel grant for study-related travel within or outside the UK

Family allowances:

 

• £590 per month for the first child
• £146 per month for the second and third child (under 16 years old)
• Disability support: Additional funding based on individual assessment

 

Note: Family allowances are a contribution towards expenses, and scholars must be able to supplement them to cover full family costs.

Eligible Nationalities

Open to applicants from eligible Commonwealth countries.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships 2025–2026, applicants must:

 

• Be a citizen of, or have refugee status in an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.
• Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
• Be available to begin academic studies in the UK in September/October 2026.
• Demonstrate financial need—that they cannot afford to study in the UK without this scholarship.
• Have an undergraduate degree (normally at least upper second class, or equivalent).
• Meet the admission requirements of their chosen UK university.

 

Application Procedure

The application process for the Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship involves two key steps:

Apply to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC):

 

• Applications typically open in September and close in October each year. Candidates must submit an online application through the CSC’s official website.

 

Apply through a Nominating Body:

Applicants must also be nominated by one of the following:

 

• A national nominating agency in their home country (the main route).
• Selected non-governmental organizations or charitable bodies.

 

Each nominator manages its own application and selection process, so deadlines and eligibility criteria may vary. Candidates should contact their national nominating agency for specific guidance.

Nominating bodies shortlist and submit candidates to the CSC for final selection. A nomination does not guarantee selection. Applicants can expect to receive the outcome of their applications by July.
